Mephistopholes
...and then I had the great idea of a smooth-edged 2HP apparatus. I was thinking, what if someone were to build one of these (a fixed width one, not an adjustable one), and were to bevel the edges of it (I hope that is the right term) so they were smoothed out slightly and wouldn't carve into your thumb webbing when you try to go heavy on it? Could be cool. Do these exist? Has anyone done this? What do you think of it?
rico300zx
Yea your susposed to do that, try a angle grinder then some sand paper, bevel to your liking. I talked to David horne about this and it is acceptable, your not susposed to be getting hurt and cut, but it can still happen (tearing from pressure and pulling) Hope this helps Parris
jvance
I smoothed out my edges as well.. It is definitely allowed and recommended. Think of the extra volume of training you'll be able to accomplish without having to worry about the skin so much.
Mephistopholes
Excellent. Yeah I was thinking If I had one made he could do something to round the edges of it. That way there wouldn't be any risk of cuts from a sharp edge, just incidental ones from the pressure.
rico300zx
oh you're still be getting one from pressure, but it will be more of a tear than a cut
climber511
The easiest thing (and cheapest) is to use Rectangular Steel Tubing. Generally I use 2" x 6" in 11 gauge or 1/8th inch wall thickness and 12" long for this. Weld a 1" nut onto the center bottom and then use a 1" bolt as a loading pin making for a very strong and solid loadable pinch apparatus. The edge radius is very hand friendly and allows more volume with less skin stress. This is generally called a Climber Pinch setup as I think I was the one who made it up that way first. Mephistopholes
I've actually been thinking lately of doing something like that.
