If anyone clicked the URL I posted, they would see that the guy in the video is posting about it on a board, and someone else had trouble with the bottle before he did. It was either defective or a trick.

It seems someone pulled a prank on the guy: http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=487034.0

Note: URL possibly not safe for work due to profanity in some comments

I wonder if they put lube on it or something. Its a long thread did he say it felt impossible to turn like slippery or just stuck? If its just stuck I have a hard time imagining he couldn't open it but if it was super slippery then I could understand.

Funny either way

See now That just makes me want to superglue a cap on a bottle of water and actually try to open it. Haha. New feat idea.

This reminds me of a story when I was a teenager. At least a year before I got into lifting or grip. A girl I was dating at the time gave me a nail polish bottle she was trying to open. It was a little old and the polish had gotten all over the threads and hardened like a rock. I tried unscrewing a couple times pretty casually thinking I was gonna twist it right off. After being humbled a bit I got up out of my chair, took a deep breath and really gave it all my strength. Broke the whole neck of the bottle off and cut my hand open. The cap didn't move one bit lol

I started training strength to avoid situations like that. :glare:

Pathetic.

You started training strength to avoid people seeing you struggle to open a water bottle on the jumbo-tron at a stadium?

Pathetic.

C'mon guys, lets not turn this into a personal attack/internet pissing contest. I think the two of you, and this board, are better than that.

I dont understand why people take stuff personally. Who cares if he was weaker than most grandmothers and who cares that we make alittle fun of it here.

"You shouldnt say that!" "You are pathetic for noticing".

I HATE touchy people and crybabies....

Dude, my bad. I didn't think you would possibly take that post serious. It was 100% NOT serious. I didn't mean to offend you.

No problem.

In high school, some kids super glued a quarter to the floor. I was watching people get pranked by it all AM. Then I decided to have a little fun with the pranksters and in between class, I went and got a chisel out of my car, and popped it loose from the tile floor.

I kind of feel for the dude in the video though. To get randomly filmed in the crowd like that, have it go viral, and people wondering if you're weak would suck.

Someone brought me a Mountain Dew bottle at work that had been over-tightened and then shook. I couldn't budge the cap no matter what I tried. I was even using one of the rubber fingers for sorting paper to gain traction. It was thrown away after I tried and written off as a lost cause.

Could it partly be that the small size of the cap the the size of a mans hand

creates less leverage?

So what training would you guys do specifically for this? Pinching is my first thought, though you don't really grab plates or a TTK anything like a bottle cap. It's a rather unique grip particularly for the right hand (different for your right vs left because of the direction it turns). I find my right hand has my thumb pinching the cap against the side of my index finger. The closest thing I can think of is a narrow pinch like a penny pinch grip top, but wider and rounded.

It'd be interesting to design an event around resisted twisting like this. Imagine a metal bottlecap shaped disk attached to a torsion spring that you had to twist x degrees.

Just to quickly touch upon the bodybuilders have no "real" strength argument, id like to.post this vid of Ronnie Coleman attempting the coc 3 with no specific background in grip training. He comes damn close and people say with the proper set he couldve crushed that thing.

PS: sorry if it's been posted many times before...i'm a gripboard noob!

Yeah but how many other bodybuilders are squatting/deadlifting 800+lbs like him?

Ronnie's WAY ahead of the average bodybuilder in terms of strength.

This video has being doing the rounds on facebook for the past couple of weeks. Now, of course technique/experience are huge factors in arm wrestling but in general I don't understand the logic behind looking as big/strong as possible but not really being able to follow it up.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes and I respect bodybuilders for the dedication and sacrifice they make but it just doesn't compute in my head.

To each their own though, right :)

Ps. Ronnie would easily close that with a proper set, no doubt in my mind
