Anybody Using The Ivanko Super Gripper?

This is really just a matter of curiosity, but is there anyone in here who owns and uses (or has owned and used in the past) an Ivanko Super Gripper? I've never seems one in person or had a chance to use one. It looks like a cool, very old school piece of equipment, but I haven't heard very much about it being used at all... Anyway I'm just curious if anyone on here is using it/used it and what they think of it. Seems like one of those "forgotten" pieces of equipment.

You're right, unfortunately. I've had mine since the early '90's and can probably say I've used it 10 times. Not sure why... I see it there every time I workout, but don't pick it up. Maybe I'll give it some work today....

Good topic

i know a lot of the top grip guys have these in their collection, and they really are a good gripper that mimicks the natural squeezing motion of the hand

Interesting... I thought about getting one a while back but never did. It sure looks like a cool piece of equipment, but also looks like it has a different motion pattern than a TSG. It's just always seemed like one of those semi-archaic pieces that is out there but never really gets used. I don't think I've seen anyone on here talk about training with it.

I have one and don't use it. It just doesn't seem to have much transfer to TSG closes which is my focus. It may work for those whom are new to grip but this is my observation, it just feels different, if I recall correctly Jedd had a similar view in his crush DVD. I use mainly my vulcan and GHP grippers for my crush, to me money is better spent there.

I also wanted one when I started grip training. I think they're appealing to newbies because they're only the price of one or two TSGs, and they feel like it's all they'll ever need to be able to crush a C.o.C.#3

Then we go and either get Vulcans or RBAs, and the ivanko gets lost in our minds.

I've only seen people keep ISGs for their collection, not many of them are used around here.

Yeah that's kind of the impresion I've always got. Haha

I've got one of the old PDA modified ones that has gripper handles. Haven't used it in years and embarrassed how much I spent on it. Was really helpful for negs on KTA though.

I have too many TSGs in my arsenal to really say this - but if I wasn't planning on either certing or competing - I would use nothing but the Ivanko and/or a grip machine of some kind along with all the other faucets of forearm and hand training. I do not think regular TSGs offer any advantages if your goal is just plain old stronger hands for regular life and possibly some disadvantages. Closing TSGs has become so "skill" oriented that I can't see them as anything but a second rate tool for competition and ego stroking.

I hear you on that. I like TSGs, but they're sort of an anomaly for me. I like to test myself on them, but I've never really been great at those things. I'm much better at the real grip "lifts" because theyre more about brute force. Plus, I can train the lifts like any other regular lifts; TSGs are a whole different game. Doesn't mean they aren't beneficial though...

But speaking of grip machines, I've been thinking of saving up to get one, and to do most (or at least half) of my crush training with it. I just feel like o could progress way better on one... Actually, I've got this Schwinn Cruiser I'm hoping to flip for a Sorinex Grip Machine. Haha

Not to mention that TSGs don't fit in my hands all that well. Big hands, long fingers. My hands have thickened up lately, so its a little better, but still, it's really easy for me to miss that "sweet spot" when I put a gripper in my hand, and wind up slipping my fingers around toward the end of the close.

I use mine for negatives occasionally. I find it easier to do negatives with rather than TSGs.
