Grip Equipment Stock-up

Good morning!

First, I apologize if this should be in the equipment section. I posted here since it is more of a general what equipment thread (as opposed to a question about specific equipment).

I am new to grip training and looking to stock up on some equipment and looking for the most bang for my buck. Some background info. I started incorporating fat grip training into my workouts a couple months ago and have already had excellent improvements from where I was (I'm still weak but getting much stronger). Ever since starting to passively work on grip, I am completely hooked! If it helps, my hands are average sized ~7 7/8" from first crease to middle finger. For a benchmark, I just started using a Sorinex 3" Pinch Block this week and am currently lifting and holding ~50lbs total weight (don't all gasp in amazement at my herculian strength :) Competition/certification are not presently in my list of goals. I really just want to develop a well rounded strong grip and healthy hands/forearms. I'm mainly doing this to add excitement and challenge to my workout routine.

Current Equipment List (Grip Specific):

- Sidewinder Pro Xtreme Wrist Roller (Really like this device over a traditional wrist roller - thanks for the recommendation Joe!)

- Fat Gripz Adapters (Use on just about everything but dumbbells)

- IronMaster Fat Grip Adapters for my Dumbbells

- 2 x Softballs with Eyelet Adapters (Use for loading pin lifts and pullups)

- 2 x Baseballs with Eyelet Adapters (Use for loading pin lifts and pullups)

- Olympic and Standard Loading Pins

- Sorinex 3" Pinch Block (Only used twice and I am hooked!!!)

- Rubber Bands (For training extensors)

- 100-300 HeavyGrip Grippers (Don't really use these [and will probably be selling soon] as they always end up hurting my hand/fingers which I'm sure is something I'm doing)

Potential Equipment List (Where I'm looking for help):

- Sorinex Mighty Mitts Pop's Gripper

- Crush Booster for Above (My hope is that this would allow me to train my crush grip without the pain associated with torsion grippers)

- Hub

- Revolving/Rotating Deadlift Handle (I'm leaning toward Sorinex for the hub and handle. While I like the idea of being able to compare my numbers more easily with the IronMind products, since they are more common, I really like Sorinex and they are MUCH cheaper) [Hub and Rotating Handle: Sorinex $60 shipped vs IronMind $117 shipped] Will the smaller 2" handle (vs 2 3/8") and 2" Sorinex hubs (vs 3") hold my training back at all?

- Additional Pinch Blocks (Since I already have the 3" block, is there a benefit to purchasing the 2" and/or 4" block(s)?)

Your input on the above is tremendously appreciated! I'm looking for suggested additions/deletions/clarifications to the purchase list. While I'm not looking to spend money just for the heck of it, I am willing to pay for the gear that is going to best suit my needs. If there is any background or additional information that I missed, please feel free to ask.

Are you planning to compete or are you just interested in training for stronger hands?

Thanks for your reply. That's buried in the end of my second paragraph (lengthy post, so no worries about missing it). I only presently plan on competing with myself though I may pursue competition in the future. For now, I'm just interested in challenging myself and developing an ever stronger grip.

How do the grippers hurt your hands?

It takes a while to make the hands toughen up :)

Sometimes the skin in the palm hurts from grippers but just suck it up :)

I've experienced two forms of pain. In the past, the bone in my palm leading towards my pinkie felt like it was going to snap and would hurt for a while after using heavier grippers. I've largely worked past that issue by developing more meat on my hands.

Now, my right hand middle finger hurts terribly during and for a while after using grippers. The pain is at or right above (the side closer to the base of my finger) the second joint counting from the tip of my finger. I don't seem to develop much/any of this issue working with fat grips. However, once I have the pain from the grippers, it bothers me during fat grip work too. Even just making a fist causes some discomfort.

Ok, sounds like you should take a timeout from grippers and then ease into it with lighter grippers for a while?

appeared when you did like heavy negatives? I had pain in my knuckles and in my palm before when I did heavy negatives.

Ruined my hand for weeks.

Not on negatives, but using a heavy for me HG250 is when the pain initially developed. I undoubtedly think I injured something as the pain now carries over to lighter grippers even after weeks of non-use. I fully agree and will not be using grippers for a while.

I really dont think you should stop using grippers tho :)

They are one of my favorite "feats" or what should I call them, in grip.

Love the feel of a big close :)

Anyone have any suggestions or advice on the list?

BTW, on my second use of the 3" Sorinex pinch block, I hit a new PR (not much of a track record for comparison :)). I was able to pinch 52.5lbs total weight. This was actually a 5lb increase as I threw everything on a scale and my previous weight was closer to 47.5, not 50 as I thought.

Cheaper options with rollinghandle and hub. Fat gripz are about as thick as Rolling Thunder so 2" handle would fill the gap nicely.

Sorinex gripmachine looks very good!

4" block is rough for thumbwebs, so I would pick couple of cheap cast-kettlebells. You can add weight via cord and also do some more dynamic moves like curls, cleans, snatches, swings etc.

The first thing I usually see missing in what I consider a well equipped grip training setup is a sledge hammer or single ended "leverage bar" to strengthen wrists.

Thanks for the clarification! I actually have an IronMaster adjustable kettlebell handle on backorder. Just one to get me started, but I may pickup a second in the future.

Excellent! That is definitely one aspect that I have completely overlooked. Thanks!

I meant that those small-dimension kettlebells are great for wide pinch because of their rounded shape bell. Grip on bottom of bell and it works like any blockweight :)

It seems to be that with pinch blocks, thicker is generally accepted as being harder. I can't find anything on hub size though. Is it the same or opposite with hubs? Would a 2" or 3" be harder for the average person? Or is it just dependent on the person?
