Jedd Johnson
Check out this Strongman Comp. It features a Grip Medley in it - pretty cool. http://www.marunde-muscle.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22133
bwwm
I want to know where they get their "metal skulls" from for their grip medley.
daniel reinard
That has The Chez, Wojo and Anwante written all over it. New recruits for their upcoming grip comp! Someone needs to scout that NAS event and do some drafting.

That is a good idea, although New York is a big state. Albany might be a hike for those guys.
KRC
Gah- that's my hometown! It'd be cool if some NY GB guys make it out.

Gotta be less than a few of the trips I do each year. Looks like a Sunday cruise to me I guess. Would still be cool to grab a guy or two for the grip comp. KRC
Looks like a Sunday cruise to me I guess. 2-2.5 hrs in the car or $40 on Amtrak from NYC
Chez
That has The Chez, Wojo and Anwante written all over it. New recruits for their upcoming grip comp! Someone needs to scout that NAS event and do some drafting. Just saw this. Its about 2:15 away from me. Maybe I'll check it out if things aren't too crazy with studying for finals. Definitely a good idea to recruit people. I'm trying hard to find grip guys in this area.

No way I'd be healthy enough by then...but I'll keep it on my radar if it's a yearly thing.
nickr104
I am working on some of the strongman from Team Boss. Brad is hooked for sure and really good. at least three others that would do great!
Amy
Just caught this. I should read things more often. Grip Nats was such a good time I included this suggestion list in my log on how to integrate some grip events in a strongman comp. There should for sure be more events included. http://asp.elitefts.net/qa/training-logs.asp?qid=171263&tid=202 I am planning on holding a comp on Feb 2 near Boise, ID. Hybrid strongman/grip. Right now tentative events include: max log, max distance farmers (heavy for the women, 275-ish or option to go with a lighter weight), max DO axle, Silver Bullet and some type of pulling medley most likely. Entry will come before mid December but the date is set in stone. After looking over my suggestions, I may consider mixing things up a bit. Jedd Johnson
Amy, it might also be a good idea to include a Gripper event, perhaps Vulcan Gripper, since you have not obsessively amassed a 50-count pile of grippers yet. bwwm
Amy, that was a great post - I read that and dug through the other things discussed and for sale on the site. I had never been there before. Jedd - That brings up a good question - will there be a recommended # of grippers, and approx increments in RGC in the NAGSA guidelines for gripper events? That's a good idea, btu as much as I'd love to set requirements like this, I don't see that as a way to help the sport to grow. So I really don't think we are ready for that at this time. I really only suggested grippers because they are such a popular and common event, plus it would afford a nice way for people to qualify for Nationals, should they want to that. There are, of course, many other ways to qualify and a promoter could just choose to include a variety of those as well. I just appreciate Amy's willingness to jump right in and start promoting after only being in the sport less than a year. To me, that is awesome.

Shoot Jedd, grip has been something I've wanted to do for a long, long time and without your help I would still be sitting back and wishing. Really, I can never thank you enough and promoting a comp makes perfect sense. I just need to get more stuff (and experience) to diversify a comp a little more. Amy - I've been going to and promoting contests for a while now and one thing great about the sport is how everyone is willing to bring equipment to use as a contest. Just as an example - at Gripmas this year - half of the grippers will not be mine - the two hand pinch plates will be Andrew's or Jedd's, My Axle but Andrews Eleiko Competition plates for accuracy on it. Several others are bringing items for the Medley - Andrews big timer - etc. I imagine if you set things up ahead of time - you could borrow most grip items you might need. bwwm
There's a lot of things that could be house hold or junkyard items too - old anvils, lifting straps for the lifting strap oly bar lift, scrap wood blocks with eye screws for pinch items, that jar of pickles that refuses to budge (okay, maybe not that). Aaron still has an odd blob that Rich made and brought to the last AZCGS that nobody has been able to break from the floor yet.
Jedd Johnson
Are there images of this Blob anywhere? Not sure I have seen it.
acorn
Jedd, come on down for the next comp and i'll show it to you. In fact you can take it home if you lift it. -Aaron Edited November 28, 2012 by acorn
daniel reinard
I remember that evil blob. It made me spill my beer! Worst part was is I couldn't lift it. :'(
bwwm
That's the thing about that blob - it's not that heavy, but the lack of texture, and the odd shape to it make it a tough pinch. I think Rich has some photos of it in his gallery.
bwwm
Here's the pic of it before Rich put some textured finish on it:
