yodajaeger Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Hello, what would be a good bridge between coc 2,5 and coc 3? HG300 or file down the coc 2,5? Guess some would recommend the vulcan but I don't like it, would like another option /Henrik Quote
Geralt Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Just curious, why not like the Vulcan? If you master your #2.5 btw you can always file it a bit and then train strapholds. Makes it a whole new gripper. Quote Started training June 2008 MM level 1 Ghp7 GSS certified Some videos.... http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_y-TPakQE6zfc18qWgZW7Q
yodajaeger Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 I don't like the "slippery" handles. I've tried forever now to make it work but it just feels awkward. Quote

yodajaeger Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Yeah, seriously I have tried chalk on the vulcan, but I still don't "get" how to work with the vulcan, and I'm perfectly fine with not using the vulcan for gripper training. I do however use it with thumb-blocks and so on, so I definitely have use for it. But in this case, my question concerned a recommendation for a good tweener between the coc 2,5 and coc 3. Is there really no suitable? Quote
Chez Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) I used the RB 240 and BBGM to bridge the gap between the #2.5 and #3. I haven't filed any grippers but I may in the future to save money because buying grip tools is quickly hurting my pocket. I agree with you on the Vulcan. I think its a great tool but it would be perfect with some light knurling and a smaller spread (I got the V2 and the spread is massive). I know that Robert Baraban has an adjustable gripper with knurling and so on. I haven't tried it, but it might be worth checking out as a training tool perhaps? Quote
Chez Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 ya, I saw that and thought long and hard between it and the vulcan. I decided on the vulcan though because I plan on competing in the WSH next year and its one of the events. I'm making progress on it but its very hard to get use to. So far my best close is level 15 and my set is usually relatively wide. I don't really train deep set. Wade Gillingham Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) Hello, what would be a good bridge between coc 2,5 and coc 3? HG300 or file down the coc 2,5? Guess some would recommend the vulcan but I don't like it, would like another option /Henrik I would recommend a Beef Builder Super Master and Beef Builder Grand Master. Both should fall in this range with the SM close to a 2.5 and a GM close to a 3. Of course grippers all vary so there's no gaurentee they will fit perfect but BB are pretty consistant. You could also try the Baraban Adjustable. If you were going to try Baraban grippers I would try an RB210 first before a RB240. daniel reinard Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Try the BB grippers Wade mentioned. Kevin Collen just bought a BBGM for the same reason you have, and he says it's right in between 2.5 and 3. I was broke when going through those sizes so I went the filed 2.5 method. Yeah I don't have an unmodified 2.5 anymore but it did the trick for me, and I probably would have filed it anyways because I need lots of BTR work to progress on grippers. hellswindstaff Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Vulcan was awkward to me at first too. I didn't realize but I was holding it backwards, turning it around helped some. If you need knurling you could use some type of tape with a rough side or even run file on the handles to make it rough. Personally I love my vulcan but I've also noticed that you need a stronger thumbpad so that the gripper doesn't slip than when using a COC. Quote
