Caroso Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Yesterday i choked my CoC 3. I thought it would make it easier to close, but i was wrong. Normally i can get CoC 3 about 5mm from closed, but when the gripper was choked to parallel the handles barely moved. I put the hose clamp on my CoC 2.5 and it made the gripper much harder to close. I decided to do some choked closes with my filed CoC 2 and focus on explosive power. I'm not sure if i should continue training with choked grippers or if it just doesn't work for me. Quote
Cannon Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 You're doing something wrong, I think. Chokers should never make a gripper harder to close. Can you post a video of an MMS attempt and choker attempt with the same gripper? Quote
Caroso Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 My hands are pretty sore after yesterdays workout but that shouldn't make any difference. Maybe it just feels like the handles are not moving at all. It is hard to see any difference between mms and choked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_fI-vkxOm4 Quote
Paul Savage Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 (edited) This was the case for me, i think it is to do with the momentum of the set, it's like how a rack pull from below the knee can be harder than pulling off the floor. I would stick with it though, can help a lot if done right. edit - I think this has a lot to do with what is used to choke the gripper also, i remember reading of how the start of the close is easier with a choker that chokes the spring. Since the start of the close is what makes it difficult with a regular hose clamp, i would say stick to using those only.
