Cannon Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I have been much less interested in grippers for the past year, but am getting the fire again to train them hard. This journal will track my gripper workouts as I make a run at the MM2! I have not set a timeframe on this goal because I know I will make it with hard work and I'll get there when I get there. My current best gripper close is a 164# BBE. That was on 9/18/10. About a year ago. For the past year I have maintained closing power in the low 150s. Initially my workouts will focus on reps with a 90% of max gripper in a choker to get the razor edge back on my closing power. I feel my biggest challenge will be keeping my hands healthy. First workout is tomorrow. Quote
patrickmeniru Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Good luck! I'll be an interested spectator... Quote

Geralt Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Good luck to you. You can do it. Got Mike Corlett's MM2 gripper today, I was looking for a gripper between IM#3 and IM#3.5 for training negatives and working on the #3 CCS. It's for the carryover between Vulcan and TS grippers. Mike replied on that. Funny to receive a gripper from the other and of the states, atlantic to Holland. Never had a MM gripper, it looks very nice and it lies very comfortable in my hand, the spread is just fine! So it's easier to set. That's the only easy thing hahaha, I'm going to try it tonight. Saw Adam Glass closing it with ease. If got my work cut out. Same for you! I'll be following your log with interest Matt. Cannon Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 Warm up HG150, 3x10, no set #1 x10, no set BBM x3 Working set BBSM choked @25mm RH/LH 5/5 6/4 #3 choked @20mm RH/LH 3/1 4/4 (dropped to BBSM for LH) 4/3 4/4 4/4 Cool down #1 x30, no set. >>> Middle finger right hand is sore as expected. I'm not exactly sure what is bothering that. It's not any sort of pain that's "in your face". It's just there. I can live with that. Quote
Cannon Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Light workout HG150, no set x10, x10, x10 #1, no set x10, 10 BBM 3 singles >>> My main goal was to see if my middle finger would hurt. I didn't want to do too much with WSH on Sat, but didn't want to flat-out skip either. The good news: Middle finger felt 100%. Quote
barbe705 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 so, is the game plan to do reps and choked reps? supplimented with some ME singles? wondering if you have a big picture type plan or if you're playing it by ear? Quote Brent Barbe "The truth is often stupid." Bender Bending Rodriguez
Cannon Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 so, is the game plan to do reps and choked reps? supplimented with some ME singles? wondering if you have a big picture type plan or if you're playing it by ear? Yeah, my plan here initially is to do a lot of choked reps so that I'm working with a fairly high percentage of my max at close range. The reps are explosive and I let the handle hit the choker each time. I've found this will really put the "razor edge" back on your max crush. I'll test myself every so often with a max effort. I'm also using no chalk and a slightly compromised palm handle position so that the choked reps will be more like the handle position when I set a gripper. I think it's a little too easy to get a choked gripper into "sweet spot" and you lose some carry over because I can't accomplish the same handle position when setting the gripper. As the reps go up to around 8-10, I'll start opening the choker and eventually switch out to a harder gripper and drop down in reps. Quote

Didn't train my left because there is something going on with my forearm. I'm thinking stress fracture but I don't really know what that is, so probably not? I'm just very aware of a perpendicular line of pain in my forearm, and my pinkie is staying a little numb. No loss of strength, but I think I'll just rest until next Monday. Quote
Chez Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Injuries suck. Been feeling some tightness/pain in my wrist and pinky. Nothing serious but I have been lowering the volume in my workouts so it doesn't get worse. Hope you heal up quick.
