A New Finger Extensor Exercise?

I don't know if this is already an exercise that people do or not. I've been thinking a little about a convenient finger extensor exercise. Here's what I've come up with:

Let's say you want to exercise the right hand. Sit with your elbows on a table about shoulder width apart. Put your left arm at about a 45 degree angle from the table, and with your hand straight up (perpendicular to the table). Put your right arm at the same angle, but with your palm parallel to the table; then, keeping your palm level, point your fingers down. Adjust so that the tops of the fingers of your right hand are about 2 inches from the palm of your left. Put a squeeze ball in the space and extend your fingers against it.

This seems to provide a very stable arrangement, with the unexercised hand providing a stable platform to push against. It seems easier than bands flying off the fingertips. The only real deficiency is that the green and blue Ironmind squeeze balls are pretty difficult to push against, allowing little finger travel. For that matter, any suggestions on something better to use? It seems like something with good travel and proper resistance should be out there...

If I'm reading it correctly I've seen/done it before.

A video? For a group that uses rice and hardware store supplies as workout materials, we sure are demanding on tech... :-)

Seriously, though, I'm working on that. I'm looking for something with a little more give and higher travel than the IM squeeze balls. Once I have that, I'll make a video and post any observations. Any suggestions on good compression material would be appreciated.

Do you recall what was used where I have a squeeze ball?
