Mun
Like to hear opinions on which gripper you would all recommend for getting to the number 3, something harder than the 2.5, i prefer BB grippers and was thinking about the BBSM 5/8th, is that an alright choice or would you go with something else? Thanks guys appreciate it
Hubgeezer
I have had both RB240N and RB260N before (since been traded), and they ran about 2.6 and 2.7 respectively. On the list of calibrations, they fall in between the grippers you desire. RBs can vary, but I suspect a 260N would "in theory" be the range you want. BB will haver more knurling than either IM or RB, and RB may have similar knurling as IM but will have a narrower spread. An HG 300 can also be in there, but no way should you risk that unless buying one someone has rated either formally or informally. Asking in the "wanting to buy" section might get you somewhere, as I think that is how I traded or sold mine. So many people on this board have lots of grippers, and as they improve and experiment and get bored, they are happy to part with them. tselegala
Wow, i always thought that the 2.5 was more than enough to do the job...did you try filing it a bit? Edited August 16, 2010 by alexis
Cannon
Wow, i always thought that the 2.5 was more than enough to do the job...did you try filing it a bit? That's what I thought too. A regular SM could be on either side of the 2.5 you already have. A 5/8" SM will almost certainly be harder at the close because of the increased rage, but you give up a little in the sweep. I have found the 5/8" grippers to have the "feel" of a narrow gripper. Easy to set, light sweep, difficult close. As an example, I can no set my 5/8" SM but not even close on my regular SM and they have about the same RGC calibration. Just start filing your 2.5. Malice
When I first closed my 2.5 I was in the same place as you, wondering what was in between. The problem I ran into is that it seems, to me anyway that as the grippers get harder the variation gets greater. I'd seen rgc ratings of RB 240, 260, BBGM and FBBC 4X that were between 2.5 and 3 but also the same number of the same grippers that were higher than the 3 so I was stuck trying to decide which to get. In the mean time I was using a choker on my #3 and now I'm so close to closing it after that I don't need any of the in between grippers now. I used several in between grippers from the 2-2.5 and didn't progress anywhere near as fast as I have from the 2.5-3. My advise is to choke your #3 and use it until you pick up whichever gripper you can find that's between the two and you might progress fast enough that you don't even need one after all. Sorry I couldn't answer your actual question but I never found a solid answer when I was asking it myself
Legendofjd3
I have just recently closed the #2.5. Trying to climb the ladder in this "new" sport for me. Ordered a RB260n in hopes that it would be easier then my 2.5 but harder then the #2, so I could get just 2-4 reps with it. Couldn't have been more wrong. It's harder then my #2.5. But after reading ^^^ Malice advise, I'll just start trying the harder stuff.
Tim71
Also, a Grand Master with a 1/4 inch or 3/16 inch mount would be a good idea. They can be custom ordered. Tim

I can't do much with the number 3 from the choked position, should i just keep tryin to crush it with all my power even if it moves only a few millimeters? Malice
That's what I do on choker days Mun. Usually if I can't move it much choked at 1" I'll close it up to 3/4" and get more movement. Then when it closes at 3/4" I open back up to 1". When I can close it at 1" I stop using the choker with that gripper. Even though it's in a choker I still assist it closed once I've squeezed it as far as I can then fight it out to the choked position.
