Rolling Thunder Seized Up

Hey everyone, just had a question about the rolling thunder. I've had one for a little while and stopped using it for about a month. Now when I went to use it again it has seized up on me and will not rotate freely like it did before. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if so, how could one fix it?

I've never had one seize up, but I do clean mine out every few weeks with compressed air. Are you using anything besides chalk on it that would have caused it to stop spinning freely?

Mine seized up too, and i have the new model. I blamed it on the humidity in my garage. After it locked up I tried keeping it in my basement next to a dehumidifier but it did not help. If anyone knows how to fix it i would love to hear suggestions.

All i learned was not to keep it in my garage. But thats tough because ALL my lifting stuff is out there.

I got given an old rolling thunder that was (I believe) stored outside. I ran it under hot water to flush out the crap, then I kept spraying WD-40 through it and wiggling it back and forth 'til it freed up. Don't be afraid to use A LOT of WD-40, because it gets rid of the water too.

Solution number 2, buy a Crusher.

Yes, the crush has far superior functionality than any RT.

That's a matter of opinion. They are both excellent training tools, but you'll also find that plenty of people prefer the feel of the RT over the Crusher.

I would report the problem to ironmind. They may not be aware that this is happening with the new design.

I second the Call IronMind idea. Randall has always offered good service after the sale.

You might opt for Break-Free, a lubricant commonly used for weapon maintenance, as it seems to have a better residual effect than WD-40. Liquid Wrench also seems to work well, though I would think in either case it's lubrication and spinning the handle, then repeating it several times.

I sent an e-mail to IM, it made sense like some of you guys said, to let them know. I told them i would wait to hear back before i tried the oils and other suggestions. I'll post when i hear back and let you guys know what they said.

Randall just asked me to ship it back to him so i sent it today. He will try and figure out what is wrong. First class company, i liked the quick response and willingness to figure out the problem.

A couple of the early prototypes of the new design were prone to locking up if continually droped on the end caps. We seized a couple up in the Grip Gauntlet. Since the middle of last year I believe this is fixed - the one I use was sent after the Arnold last year and it's been fine. We really hammer on these in the GNC booth - at least 2000 attempts throughout the Arnold weekend and most people dropping the handle - no problems this year. I'm guessing it's one of the earlier models of the new design.
