Which Plates For Pinching?

I'm curious where people get the plates for pinching. At my gym, the plates are much thicker than Olympic and are very difficult to pinch - even 4 10s is very hard. For people who pinch, do you just go to a gym that has Olympic plates or did you buy plates? If you bought, what is a good place that is not too expensive?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, the modern day gym is riddled with absolutely useless plates if your planning to train

grip. Go to craigslist and buy what you need and keep them at home. This will also avoid the annoying, "hey man, why are lifting the plates like that" comments that you will receive 10 times per workout at your local gym.

If you plan on getting 25s, 35s, or 45s make sure you get plates that have a nice hub on them so you can train hub lifting also. Craigslist and play-it-again sports are two places you can get plates from (cheap). You can also get plates from any sporting goods store or Walmart or Target (more expensive).

Regarding the comments you would receive for training grip, I haven't received that many comments except for a few occasions. One occasion really stands out to me. I was trying to hub lift a 45 and I was getting about an inch of air each lift. After doing it about 10 times a guy asked me if I needed help to put the plate on the weight tree (I was working out right next to it). I guess he didn't realize what I was doing.

My gym has rubber coated plates so I do most of my grip work at home. I purchased all of my plates from Play it Again Sports or Craigslist. You can get some great deals on Craigslist. What I do when I have a chance is buy complete packages from people off Craigslist and sell the items that I do not want. I usually at least break even which means I get stuff I want at next to nothing.

As far as plates, I have many different varieties. For 10's I just made sure that they are all of the same thickness. In the second picture there are two different thickness sets of 25's. For 35's I have only one set, for 45's I have a few different sets of different thicknesses. I also have a set of Weider Kg. plates. These have helped me moving up since they are 11, 22, 33, etc. Whenever I see a unique set of plates,I buy them. For hub lifting I have different widths and depths of plates that have all helped me move up to the next one.
