Choker Questions

I am completely new to chokers and I was wondering where I could buy them. I'm also wondering: when I choke a gripper, can I unchoke it later or does it have to stay choked?

Thanks in advance.

Also, you can take the hose clamp on/off as needed, or leave it in the choker as needed. I've had a GM of mine in a choker for months at a time. It has not affected the gripper in any noticable or measurable way (i.e. the calibration remains exactly the same).

I put some athletic tape at the top of the handle to keep the choker in place during use. Otherwise it has a tendancy to move around a little.

Where did you guys buy hose clamps. I was thinking Home Depot, but after checking online, looks like they don't have any. Is there any store I can buy these, or do I need to shop online?

You can get them at any home improvement store in the plumbing section. If you don't think you can guess what size you need, take your grippers with you. There are many different sizes. I guess when I purchased mine and ended up with the right size. They come 2 to a pack for about $1.50.

An added benefit to a hose clamp is that it is adjustable. You can get your grippers really close by tightening it with a flathead.

I guarantee Home Depot has them. Just ask an employee.

Any auto parts shop like Advanced - Auto Zone etc will have them also.

I bought mine at Auto Zone. They were about $2.50 for a pack of two. I recommend using the size for 2 1/4" - 2 1/2" hoses. I've never had any issues with using them.

You can use big ass steel washers to.They work really good and fit on the spring of the hand gripper.

Thanks everyone. I just have one more question: how do I put the hose clamp on the gripper? I read the article by Teemu and he says to squeeze the gripper using a vice. I do not have a vice. Can I just hold it close to parallel with both hands and have a friend put the clamp on? Is there another way?

I slide the hose clamp over the spring and the top of the handles with the screw facing up and squeeze it against my leg like doing a negative then tighten the screw until it's where I want it. I usually start at 3/4" and when I can close it from there open it to 1" and when I can close it from 1" take the choker off.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help! Just bought everything I need: athletic tape and hose clamp. I chocked my #2.5 and closed it pretty easily with the right hand. Seems like a productive way to progress.
