Jonathan McMillan
I really love this exercise, although I think I need a heavier or bigger towel, I'm using an old dish towel and its pretty flimsy so there's not much crushing happening to roll it up. But seeing as how it's winter I couldn't do the exercise outside so instead of using sand as Brookfield reccomended. Instead, I went to the hardware store and got a bunch of washers, everyday I do the exercise I tie two washers onto a piece of hay twine. No mess. bender
You live up north, eh? Try getting that towel wet, and then keeping it outside in the cold, eh. Now try rolling it. Ya sure you bettcha! Then, to increase resistance keep it out side longer and longer until you have to break ice to roll it, eh. Ya, that's a hard one. Or stick with the washer idea. Jonathan McMillan
Bender, It was -20 Celcius today! Don, It's very much like the old idea of rolling up a piece of newspaper with one hand into a ball...but Brookfield turned the volume up on the exercise and reccomended using a hand towel and then to eventually add weight to the exercise. I think the Gripmaster's Manual is something that anyone who wants some longevity in the gripping game should read...but if you don't have MOHS, I reccomend getting that book first! Guest Harlan Jacobs
What I did was poke a hole in the corner of the towel, put an "S" hook in the hole and hang a 12" cresent wrench on the hook. I then grab the opposing corner and go for it.Works great.
Jonathan McMillan
Harlan, Don't let Tom Black borrow your towel and wrench setup or you just might find both rolled up into a ball Jon@han
Guest Harlan Jacobs
I would like to see Tom do that. Not that I don't think he can, I think it would be awsome to watch !!!!!!!!
Guest malis
What Brookfield recommends (and what I use) for resistance in the roll-up, is that you tie a snare to a hole in one corner of the towel, and there you tie a small plastic bucket that you are supposed to put sand in. I don`t have sand either, so I just put "stuff" in the bucket. A pair of pliers, rusty nails etc. And it`s -24 celsius in Helsinki,Finland. darkdan
I bought a golf towel for $3 at walmart. Even came with a clip. So far I'm up to 1.25 pounds and it's really helping my gripping. Soon I'll be attaching an empty paint can and placing my weight inside of it.
