19750926o
You can buy manila rope. It's softer and more comfortable.

Guest Bullitt
We did some up at Jedd's a few weeks ago. He uses 2" manilla rope, which seemed like the perfect diameter to work your grip. Toward the end of the video...
maidenfan
I have ropes all the way up to 2.5" and manilla is definately the best for climbing. I'd recommend the standard 1.5" for climbing as the 2"+ stuff will fry your grip before you actually get anywhere up the rope (I'm talking hands only climbing here). I'm on a quest for some 1.5" range double braided line, but the stuff is hella expensive as its really only used in the commercial marine world. I get my rope from these guys - knot and rope supply

maidenfan
I called Knot and Rope Supply about a 1.5" double braid rope and they said they can get it, but its $8-10 per foot (but the ultimate rope for climbing) - maybe someday. Heres a video of some cool rope work stuff I really like - basics, but really hits hard. This guy is a classic garage gym, dino/gripboard type Rope Basics
