hey guys,

gotta ? for yall, my goal gripper is the 2.5 and im lookin for some grippers to get me there. I have notice r.b. grippers with thinner handles aand fbbc's smooth grippers.

I trianed with cemery and experience grippers that had been filed and so I know what thats about, but these smooth grippers have me guessing since the description says they req less force but the smoothness makes up for it. Fire away with your insight! I consitantly close the master and rb 180 with the normal handles. I'm off to the sledge hammers

Yes, the smooth handles make them more difficult. I recently calibrated a 4x that came in at 149, I think. I could normally close a 149# gripper any time, but missed this one by a good 3/8" to 1/2". It was a real bad miss. It's a weird feeling, though. It just wouldn't shut, but if I forced it closed, it would stay shut. The smooth handles just make it so hard to get a grip.

I'm with Matt. I calibrated my 4X at about 147 I think and have been fighting the last mm for quite a while now but I can close stouter grippers consistently up to about 155. It makes quite a difference but I think it's something you can train with to get used to it as well.

I'd recommend the FBBC Oldschools and John has the narrow handles as well. I really like the feel of the springs on them as well, really smooth IMO.

As a side note, and this is just my opinion, I would get the 5/8" beef builders from GSS if you want the smaller handles. I've never been impressed with any RB gripper I've ever held.

I've never used any RB grippers but I love my FBBC old schools. I was also looking for something between the 2 and 2.5 so I got the 3X. It was perfect for in between that range. With the smooth handles it was a real challenge getting them to touch without twisting in my hand. The pull is real smooth all the way too. I definitely recommend them.

Just curious, what don't you like about the RBs you have tried?

I ordered a FBBC old school 3x from the Gripper Super Store on Tuesday and it arrived today, great service and fast shipping from the Gripper Super Store again! It's a very nice looking gripper with a wide spread, but my 3x is a tougher close than my coc #2.5's and Super Master, so I'm going to say this gripper is between the coc #2.5 and coc #3.I'm thinking about adding another old school gripper to my collection!

Smoothness doesnt make a huge differnce for me. You might be a little worse on an all out, do or die attempt, but in the long run it doesn't make a huge difference.
