User99
I just purchased my first set of CoC grippers (T/#1) last week. While waiting for them to arrive, I bought some $10 Harbinger grippers from the local sporting goods store. Since I've been doing a pretty consistant weight training regiment for a while, I figured I'd play around with the light ones to get prepared for the CoC. Since they were laying around and pretty easy to close I just kept at them, doing a few sets of 30s in each hand throughout the day. After a few days my wrist started hurting on the side opposite my thumb and pretty much only hurns when I move my palm inwards towards my wrist. Now my CoCs have arrived and I'm hesitant to start them. Of course, the wrist that hurts is my strongest hand. How long should I lay off the gripping before trying to work with my CoC T? Should I do any light work that may help it heal?
Joefrey
If you're new to grip training, be prepared to this because not only will you have to build muscles but also ligaments and tendons. From time to time, they will hurt due to high stress. I would suggest a little rest until you feel better. And if you want to built strong hands, forget about endless reps with light grippers. Those will not toughten your hands but just lead you to tendinitis. And while off the game, just put good informations to read in your hands
mobsterone
The sets of 30's through out the day for hands that have done nothing before may be why. The info is right there in the first post.
BigMike4
Be careful when you are first starting out, It is very easy to get carried away. I know this because It happened to me. I wanted to do too much without an adequate grip/tendon base strength and got some nasty wrist tendinitis. It's been almost 2 months that I haven't been able to workout my grip. Read this before mashing away at the grippers. It's a great beginners workout that will develop a strong base in order to prevent injuries down the road. astrojetred
It takes a long time to build up your tendons, bones, and even your skin. Be patient, and look forward to being a beast, the right way
User99
Thanks for all the good info, fellas. It's been almost a week now and my pain is starting to wane. Still have a bit of stiffness. On the other hand (har har har), I was able to close my CoC #1 with my left (weeak) hand on the first day I bought it. I'm not sure if that's considered a real 'feat of strength', so I don't have a video to post here of it. I'm not trying to make any grandiose claims.... yet! There's a whole lot of good info on here. Soaking it all up! Thanks again.
