Martin Gaisser
I know everybody pretty much agrees that training thickbar stuff including the rolling thunder will take away from your chrushing grip while training. I was wondering if the same holds true for the opposite. I've almost finished my second round of KTA and am in the most demanding part of the program. Today I was in the gym doing my 5/3/1 workout and thought I would give the old rolling thunder a go. My previous best lift was 150lb which i know ain't good. The only thing I have been doing is KTA and just the other day I started doing a few negatives with my BLOB50 after my gripper work. So anyways I load it up to about 10lb over my previous best and got it no problem so I sarted getting excited and started adding some weight. I ended up with way more than I thought I could lift and put it on the scales just to make sure and get a correct number 189.98! I was really shocked. So do you guys think after I get through with my KTA training and some rest these numbers will go up?
Volko Krull
Yes Martin, they should. Kinney, renowned for his crushing and negative holding strength, could roll a 173lb Inch Dumbbell from hand to hand 5 or 6 times, all in midair. What I'm getting at is; he never touched a thickbar, except maybe for his wristroller or thick pipes at work in the steelshop maybe For the other thing, I don't now if thickbar will take away from your crush, but you get one hell of a sweep out of it. I'm 16 and only, ONLY due to my prior thickbar training I can butter through the sweep of a No2 like nothing. Well the last quarter inch is a different story from TNS at least Another thing I have noticed is when helping somebody move, I was always way stronger at digging my hands into soft, heavy couches and furniture after I concentrated on thickbar for a couple months. When I revolved around gripper training, my hands would tire out and cramp extremely fast doing that kind of work. If I had to choose, just gripper or thickbar, one or the other, I'd take thickbar any day, more realistic approach to it.
