1stCoC
A number of attendees for the upcoming Sorinex Summer strong have contacted Dr. Strossen and asked if certification was possible during this event and along with a grip contest we have been looking forward to. I am in full support if Ironmind approves and we are still looking for those interested in judging the grip contest and running the event. All in all it would combine many good things in one day. We are fully stocked with equipment and ready. I think events like a axle lift, Vbar 2" or anvil cone lift, gripper progression and a small pinch, thick bar medly would make for a good balanced contest in addition certification opportunity. If US Handstrength could help in getting me any registration info so this is officially counted contest and proper credit given, the contestants and I would be most appreciative. If Chad, Andrew,Tex ,Rich, Paul, Mr Ivey, etc. show there could be some records set. Thanks RS June 26!!!!!at Sorinex
Martin Gaisser
Mr. Sorin, I was wondering if you could let me know what all goes on at the Summer Strong event? Even if the grip contest dosen't go off it sounds like something I might be interested in attending. I would also like to get certified on the #3 as well if I do get to make it. andurniat
Martin, I'll let Richard expand on this but I attended last year and here is what I saw. Started at 8am in the South Carolina weightroom with a tour. Back to the Sorinex showroom, where, if weight was around it was lifted. There was an excellent oly lifting clinic/speak, Crossfit workouts, self-defense demonstration, deadlift challenges - both max weight and max reps, grip challenges - thick bar, blob, whatever. Beer wss drank and food eatin to refuel before trying our hands at some highland game implements. I would say there was at least 12 hours of none stop lifting. A great time and I can only imagine this year will be even better. See you there.
Bob Lipinski
Richard, As far as US Handstrength goes, it is a pretty tight-knit community but informal, so as long as official equipment and rules are used, we will go by your word that everything has been done correctly. If you are unclear on any equipment or rules, you can contact me or you can let me know in this thread. As far as running the contest, I wish I lived closer. If you don't have any offers, you can shoot me the names of some attendees and I will do my best contacting people and asking them if they would like to do it. Paul Knight
I should make this one .... wanna go for the 3.5 ... I'll let Ironmind know soon enough. Sounds very cool especially after reading what Andrew wrote.
Hubgeezer
.... wanna go for the 3.5 ... I'll let Ironmind know soon enough. YES. Too few people on that list and not enough guys with the chutzpah to go for it. Do it!
Martin Gaisser
Has there been a decision made whether or not a grip competition will be held at Summer Strong this year and who all is planning on making the trip? I'm still going to try and make it either way.

Richard and I talked a bit about it and we know the DO axle will be there, some form of pinch will be there and perhaps a Vbar or something creative. The 2HP is a 'definite' maybe because it's a great event, but, as everyone who has been to a grip comp knows, it can take forever if not very well-coordinated. The grip comp will be just one part of a huge day of events, so time is an issue. Possible substitutes include a blob medley because Sorin has a few blobs laying around. If I can get this elbow feeling better, I might make the drive to compete and cert on the #3. One thing that kept things moving quickly on the 2HP at CGC was doing 10 lb jumps up to 200 lbs. Then allowing 5 lb jumps. It actually went pretty quick, even with three widths used. Edited May 20, 2010 by Bullitt

1stCoC
Its' going to be a full day with lots of great stuff going on. Even Terry Todd hinted at hopping on a plane to visit and see a few "special things" we have lined up. He is I think looking as well for new talent and ideas for next years even larger Arnold's Mighty Mitts contest. We have secured great rates at the Hyatt Place hotel about a mile from Sorinex right off the interstate, great places to eat close and one walking distance right next door. We secured a great reduced rate in this nice new hotel and by emailing Gorergen@Sorinex.com you can get a direct reservation link sent to you. 79.00 per night. Zach Coulter as well as several others have voulenteerd to conduct the grip contest part (contact him if you want to pitch in) I will have the final events listed Tuesday. Straight forward simple events that will be on accepted calibrated equipment testing each of the 3 main componants of grip.I look forward in sharing my birthday with my brothers in strength in a continued effort to support and promote the worthy sport of grip. Its kind of like those who attended Woodstock yes, all it took was the effort to GO to be part of history and a change for the good....just do it!RS
1stCoC
I would like to firm up the events for the contest. The double overhand Ironmind axle deadlift, 2" Vertical bar deadlift, and a medly where points are scored for success in completion (as with a gripper) a sucessful pull/pinch or load onto a platform or a locked out finish. Items used in the medly will be blobs, plate pinch, Inch Dumbell, anvil, and grippers. My thnking there will be at each station 2-3 items to choose from so you can have success at several levels. ie: grippers to close 2.5,3, 3.5. Inch bell load 132,158, 172. Plate pinch and pull for height 25pair, 35pair, 45 pair, "fat" 45 pair. Anvil load 125lb, 149lb, 173lb.and perhaps blobs 45lb, 50lb. and fatman 52LB.loaded. I think this would provide fun for everyone include the 3 types f grip strength and in two events have the ability for records to be set.I hope Zach and the others are in accord with this plan of action.RS

1stCoC
Important question! With a 2'" V bar lift what IS the dimention of the bar...? Olympic bar ends are not 2" but machined down to 1.970 +/-.010" to fit any olympic plate. I understand the bar is 24" overall long (is that correct?) but, IF an actual dead nuts 2"V bar is to be used it WILL NOT fit olympic plates. D.O.M. (drawn over manderel+ tubing could achieve the exact 2" but machining on one end is(expensive and would be a royal "pain" to load. So, when we call a bar a two inch Appolon's type axle bar (Appolons actual bar was 1.900)are we talking exactly 2" or as close as possible to 2" and still fit Olympic plates on? EXACTLY what has been used and approved with the US Handstrength assoc.?I want to have this right for the guys! Many thanks ,RS
