1stCoC
We just returned from Orlando Fl. where the National Master Strength Coach convention was held. Several hundred of the top D-1 schools "master" level coaches were present. Each year we put up a grip challenge and as usual the retired NFL player(6'5 275lb.) now turned strength coach for U Missouri Pat Ivey bided his time and then just blew everyone away. I have a 14lb cast iron cone that when loaded is self standing just as an anvil set on it's end would be. It is quite hefty in dimentions tapering in 10.5" from a point to nearly 4" in diameter. It is like a horn off a 200-250lb anvil. I wasn't sure what would win at the show but I figured ANYTHING around 170 would be really outstanding since it was larger in size than the Jowett Anvil used at the Mighty Mitt's contest at the Arnolds. Everyone tried and the first day final mark was 172.5. I figured "it was over"The next day Pat flanked by his super talented strength support staff just belew everyone away with a first try 202.5 success! I am not sure if even the mighty Rich Williams can presently equal that.... we will see. For a little backround in years past I have seen coach Ivey effortlessly lift the Inch Dumbbell and carry it distances ranging from 25' to the width of the exhibit hall( 75'-100'?)! I am trying to recall the distance he finally carried it.The show was a wonderful learning opportunity and being surrounded by the greats in strength training both old and new sure was exciting.I think Mr. Ivey with ANY training will be ready to do battle at this next years Mighty Mitts! Cannon
Is this him?
1stCoC
Yes sir it is. He is the complete package when it comes to smarts ,athletic ability, applied scientific coaching, AND topped off by unworldly motivation. He constantly searches for "new and better ways" and when he sees something that can be useful in the quest of sport strength and power as our man here Jeff said about him "like a human sponge". He is very strong overall but his hand strength is in the "rare air" of the very best I have ever seen.RS
andurniat
Is he coming to Summer Strong? Would love to meet him.
1stCoC
He brought his entire staff here to Sorinex one year ago for a day of exchanging ideas and training. He and the staff is invited to Summer Strong #3 and I would guess time permitting at least some of them will make it.He obviously trains but says "not directly" on grip. I think he will rise to a "challenge or fight" in a second.... as many out there in gripland.RS
jad
I remember going to football camp at Mizzou and being in their weight room and Pat had a ton of records. Not sure now though?
