gollan
How much overlap is there between wrist curls and a wrist roller? Do you do both exercises full-bore? One or the other? A moderate dose of both? Curls for strength and roller for endurance? Thanks for your input.
Guest wells
IMHO Wrist Rollers a solid compound exercise using almost all 13 muscles in your forearm; high tension throughout exercise; demanding and taxing ; barchios come into play more during this exercise, strengthening the sometimes forgotten & ignored 'elbow area' Wrist Curls a bit more of an 'isolation' exercise; great for 'pump up' mass work. Both are great exercises... many variations... power & strength, endurance & stamina... Sometimes I do them together or on different days depending on the mood, training schedule, or target goal of a particular work out.
OldGuy
I believe wristrolling to be the single best all around wrist grip forearm and hand exercise. You are doing wrist curls in both directions, and also gripping the bar very hard. On top of that endurance is trained, as each rep takes a while to complete. python
Wrist rolling is without a doubt an effective exercise but you should try various exercises so the muscles involved are constantly being "tricked" and never have a chance to get use to anyone way. Wrist curls in my opinion aren't that effective I feel the farmers walk with a heavy weight around 100lbs in each hand will do wonders for your forearms/grip. This site is the best in my opinion for anyone interested in Grip training so continue to check on here for ideas/exercises. Good Luck
Patrik_F
Anybody who knows the anatomy of the wrist well? The wrist is used in many different angles. I wonder how much or if at all there is a carry over between different angles. For example: plate curling, wrist rolling and lever bar work all work the wrist in totally different angles. I have never done wrist curls but I like wrist rolling. I dont do wrist rolling on a regular basis though, but I suspect that it is a great wrist builder. Atm I find plate curling more challenging, you cant do everything at once.

Jonathan McMillan
Patrick, My anatomy classes in college weren't much better then what you'd get from a highschool health class, but speaking from personal experience I don't see much carry over between the different wrist exercises I've built my plate wrist curl up to a 25lb plate additional weight but I can barely get through a few reps in the barbell wrist curl with 100lbs Jon@han
Roark
Although the 100 lbs in the wrist curl is a warmup weight for me, I am a long, long way from being able to plate wrist curl a 25 pounder. Indeed, it is hard for me to do a proper, slow negative with that plate. So I agree, no meaningful carry over. In the barbell wrist curl, the bar is nestled into the palm, the fingers remain curled, so I had a rude shout of hello when I tried a plate wrist curl, which of course requires straight fingers.
