Hand Numbness (injury)

hi

just wondering if anyone here has experienced numbness to the fingers after a cut to the hand?

I had an accident last week and ended up cutting the palm of my hand on some glass (at the base of the thumb), and still have some numbness in my thumb. Also get a sharp pain in my thumb if i move it in a certain way - although this has decreased day by day now.

Has anyone had a similar injury to the hand before? and if so, did it take long to heal? any suggestions on what to do?

(i did go to the hospital when i got the injury, so it has been looked at/cleaned/sewn up)

needless to say, any sort of grip training is out for now, so any suggestions would be really appreciated!

thanks!!

I have cut nerves when I used to do landscaping and tree pruning. The areas affected have remained numb ever since; my understanding is that the only way for cut nerves to heal is if a surgeon re-connects them.

Is it just numbness in the skin below the cut or does the numbness cover a large area of the thumb? If it is serious, you may want to have a specialist look at it.

I've had sugery where nerves were cut. They usually come back but not 100%. It can take a year or more before you notice improvement. This, of course, is assuming that you cut the nerves and it isn't just Metacarpal tunnel syn.

I was told the hospital that no nerves were cut, but the numbness could be caused by the swelling in my hand.

It has been getting gradually better each day, but i still don't have full movement yet, and still have the numbness almost 2 weeks later.

thanks for the reply guys!

Same here, snapped a tendon in a finger and after surgery lost a lot of feeling, it comes back but not 100%.
