MalachiMcMullen
I'm tired and going to bed but I always hate waiting for results so here is my half-arsed and annoyingly vague sampler for all of you who weren't there... I did well. Much better than expected, even by me which is a good thing and proves that my pinch is what is holding me back. Dave won(I didn't think I was keeping anyone in suspense there). Andrew came in with a nicely farked left hand and still managed to do well. Brouse wore his dressy deadlifting socks that made him both look awesome and ridiculous in that order. Brouse and I beat Dave at something, tying for 1st in that event. Some people's top 5 predictions were slightly off. Don and Jerri rocked as usual. It didn't rain. The rim lift hurt and Flynn and myself were man-enough to get some human flag action going on after the comp as well as an immediately regretted ring-finger chinup by myself. Lastly, we need to figure out some way to add weight to hubs because loading the hub quickly became an art and an event all by its lonesome. bencrush
Well congrats Zach! Not sure what performances you did man but you sound happy. Hope you hit many more grip contests in the coming years man. Look forward to hearing what the others did too.
barbe705
It was a well run comp that moved along pretty quickly. I was pretty unhappy with my performance in almost every event. Zach has come along by leaps and bounds. durniat is insane, competing with a sutured left hand. It was a good time and well worth the drive. brent Quote Brent Barbe "The truth is often stupid." dthor
Nice writeup Zach! Sounds like you guys had a great time. Everyone had a good time, but we missed big John Eaton. Good group of guys, and the Contest was a good change of pace, having some new events. First of all, Zach is getting strong. I believe he got 4th on the gripper event, closing a Narrow SE. Matt Brouse got 3rd. overall. Had 3 excellent events. Andrew Durniat of course was outstanding. One of the strongest guys I have ever competed against. Andrew and I were very close until the last event (Rim Lift Hold) which really held him back. He still managed to get 4th. on the Hold, without the use of one finger. Jeff Flynn held on one more second than me to take first. I missed Don Larkin's Old Black SHD by a hair on my fourth attempt. Missed the 20# front lever, kept levering it up a bit off kilter. As always, Thanks to Don and Jeri Larkin. Edited May 10, 2009 by David Thornton

dansweeney
What can I say, Don and Jerri are the most gracious hosts, and Bob always runs a fantastic contest! On to my "Trials and tribulations"... Grippers: Yeah, I still suck really badly at them! Closed a HG200 and pinched "lots of skin" in the HG250 and failed. Hub lift: I didn't think I was going to get this thing off the floor, but after several tries, it came up! First pull with a 1 1/4, final pull with an added 2 1/2 platemate. PR for me since I never did this before, so I was pretty happy. Vbar: Not my day for this lift...Got 180 and it felt really slippery, got 185, got 195, and missed 205 badly. I had hoped to beat Zach in this event since its the only thing I'm anywhere close to him anymore! Sledge medley: Got the 6 and 8 to the high platform, then failed miserably at slim levering even the 10lber. I gotta start training this! Rim lift: the 335 felt way easier to lift than I thought it would, but mere seconds after the lift is when the real pain starts....Got 17 seconds, which I was very happy with for my first time. It was awesome seeing all the faces from last year and talking, and meeting all the new guys. Congratulations to all the guys who did so well!!! I have to agree with Dave: Eaton, Josh, Ben, Jedd and everyone else who could not make it, you were missed!
Bob Lipinski
Great time. I will write up more later. 1. Dave 2. Durniat 3. Brouse 4. Jeff Flynn (AP) 5. Zach 6. Jesse (Incinindium) 7. Me 8. Brent 9. Stew (I think) And I forget from there. I guess my only victory was getting the 5 10's zach couldn't. I wasn't happy about how I did, but glad to see Zach whoop some ass. AP
Bob puts on a great contest and you couldn't find a better venue than Don's gym. Dave kicked butt once again, though it was nice to beat him in one event (and by only a second at that). Andrew was brutally strong with one hand and Brouse is an intense competitor to say the least. It was a heck of a lot of fun and my tendons were screaming still at 5am this morning! Thanks again Stew for the horseshoe, I gave the heart to my mom for mother's day. The Natural
Matt, Andrew is in fact a shape shifter. The "28 inch waist" "twig boy" look that he presents at grip contests is just a mind game.
