RPGoodfellow Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Thanks, guys! And a HUGE thanks to Eaton who graciously agreed to drive down to Binghamton for some fun. A while back he lent me an, "average" CoC #3 and two blobettes (42 and 42.6lbs, I think). I knew going into this weekend, I needed to have both under control or he'd be on my ass. I'm just glad I could keep up my end of the bargain. There are a lot of folks on the board who know Eaton is silly strong...but, he's also a technician of his craft. John's natural strength is only surpassed by his knowledge. When he talks technique, I listen. Thanks, bro. That said, I had an absolute BLAST yesterday! I'm more excited about lifting the Blob than I was about first closing a CoC #3! That thing has been haunting me for a while now. 3rd time is a charm, I guess. The grippers felt great yesterday too: I knocked down 3 different CoC #3's, I got a little skin caught in one of John's other BB grippers (around MM1) and missed it. John turned off the camera and I picked up his 166lb BB Elite and murdered it. The look on Eaton's face was absolutely priceless! HAHAHA! I gave his new 170lb CoC #3.5 a ride - the set felt great and close to the bottom of the close, I felt it slide back a bit and I missed it. John said I was really close. On his way out he said I could take the gripper on loan on one condition: I get a good close on video. I reluctantly agreed. I'm in Eaton's debt more and more - every time we get together, he lends me something to improve my game. I don't bend much at all. In fact, I've never bent anything noteworthy; just a few 60d's, a 12" spike or two, and some grade 2 bolts. When Eaton said, "...and I brought a Red Nail, just in case you brought your balls today." I thought I was in big trouble. I have a new found respect for folks who crush those things in the IM pads. I thought my fingers were going to explode! One leather wrap over the IM pads and that thing went down pretty quick. Again, I can't thank John enough for all the help. I had a great weekend and got a lot of good training in with my brother-in-law, Dave. I'll try to get some vids up on my blog. Thanks again for all the well wishes, guys! John Eaton Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 Goody really was on that day. I wish I had brought more stuff for him to hit. I literally would set the stuff up for him and get the camcorder ready and he would get it on the first try. When he comes up again and hits either Jedd's or my place, where we don't have to lug the equipment around We will see him doing much more for sure. I loaded the video to youtube. odin Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 To say I'm impressed would be an understatement, to hit all those feats one after the other when any one of them is great to do fresh, and for the first time on most all of them, wow, great job! HAHA! For sure, John! I need to get to your place - you've been draging your crap all over Upstate NY for me. HAHA! To say I'm impressed would be an understatement, to hit all those feats one after the other when any one of them is great to do fresh, and for the first time on most all of them, wow, great job! You've taken it to a whole new level Goody. how did you do it? Thanks, Bob! I appreciate that, especially from a guy with such a string of great lifts attached to his name. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure how I did it. HAHA! I've been playing with those 42-ish lb blobs Eaton loaned me once a week or so for pinch. And for the grippers I've just been working on getting consistent with TNS closing my CoC #2.5. The TNS work has consisted of taking my CoC #2 and #2.5 to the office with me 3-4 days/week and getting attempts on them when ever I think about it. Once and a while I'd get home and pick up a CoC #3 and hit it just to see how it felt. Lots of extensor work throughout the day, plenty of water, and some good lower arm/wrist stretches are also contributing factors for sure. I'm also learning to listen to my body a little more: if I don't think it's a good idea to train...I don't train. I think the biggest factor for my recent grip success has been my increase in overall strength and power. I'm finally back in the gym consistently and I'm showing big improvements everywhere as a result. I think it was just plain old-fashioned strength that got me through the IM Red Nail. I preached this msg to Eaton pretty hard...and I think I scared him a bit, so hopefully he'll start training! Quote Goody Cinderblock Hands I am an agent of Fate, Michael. Goody your doing some amazing stuff, keep up the hard work!
