mobsterone Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I was having a barely ok morning (for me) on grippers but what might well be a very good morning on the 2" v-bar. I know 329lbs has been done. I've taped a couple of good lifts so am looking to find out what's the best thus far. Anyone know? Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ

mobsterone Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 Cheers Bob. I've just re-figured what I thought I did and what I actually did. I thought I'd pulled 155.5-kilos (342+lbs) and in fact it was a perfectly reasonable 145.5-kilos or 320.76lbs. I'm pretty sure someone posted a 329lbs 22 V-Bar video (indeed here it is: ) 9+ lbs to go then. Ryan... I is coming for ya I've taped it but unless it's considered a record claim (in which case I don't wanna post it but will forward a copy to a ref of some description so they can verify it) I'll save it for the Grip Documentary footage. mobsterone Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 Cheers. But 342lbs would have been better. And I want it before June. The Chad comp has 250 in the medley and I open with 221lbs or so. I KNOW I can get more than 329lbs and it'd be good to open that up for some friendly competition. Plus it'll make for footage people will wanna see if I can get it on the grip dvd. EricMilfeld Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Ryan Johnson pulled that 329 out in my garage. Totally unofficial in the sense that it wasn't in a contest, but witnesses were present and I was judging for the 2" height requirement. Quote
thewicked Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 i actually pulled 329 twice that night... but since the battle cry has been sent out.. i'm down for this challenge.. how bout a friendly race to 350 mob? what do you say? I've got my own implements being made as we speak so i don't for-see this not being feasable. 320 means you've got me and maybe then some if you pick your attempts in the pulls right. I went 275, 3, 310, 315, then 329 twice.. keep that in mind and you could probably get more. I've got a few training ideas to really bring these numbers up and hope to break or set atleast one world record at the woodall. you game buddy!?1 Quote

I also had to take two attempts at the max weight. But see my comment re Chad's comp - no max v-bar unless I'm mistaken. It's been a tough week ha ha). In the upcoming Chad event it's 250lbs in the medley and I will not have an opportunity to do it in any event before then (the Peter Horne event this weekend nor the Brits in a few weeks) but this is still a nice offer for someone. mobsterone Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Double checked and this is on Chad's website: EVENTS: (calibrated plates will be used) * Grippers - (calibrated) parallel set / Strong hand only / 4 max attempts * 2 Hand Pinch – Euro pinch / 4 max attempts * IM Apollon’s Axel – Double Overhand (conventional style or Sumo) 4 max attempts * IM Rolling Thunder - (old seasoned handle) Strong hand only / 4 max attempts * Medley (1 run only) – will include 20 or more items (pinch, thick bar, bending, tearing) Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
The Natural Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Ryan just needs one more "leap" in overall hand strength to pull 350. I say "leap" because the V-bar seems to not be capable of steady, week-by-week progress. He'll keep training all aspects of grip and then show up one day soon and do it. That's my prediction at least. -Rex Quote "It would be simpler if they had two classes: open and handicapped. mobsterone Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 As per a reply to Jedd I've improved for 2 reasons. One ties in with what you suggest - just an improvement in overall hand strength and the 2nd is merely nothing more than access to the equipment. If I added a third aspect it would be not over training it. I'm fairly confident Ryan and I will be tres close. thewicked Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 i'm having a v-bar made for this reason.. i have only touched a v-bar 4-5 times if that many. My grip keeps going up and up. pulled a big EASY two hand of 190 at the meet and a 12lb axle pr since the metroflex and closing hte 3.5 coc easier and easier and closed a narrow ELITE in my left. My new training aids are really going to help bump things up and I plan on giving BIG STEVE a good run for his money. why not just see who pulls the most as a warmup for the woodall Mr. G? let's get there.. and do it before it gets started to put on a good show and get everyone pumped? Little head to head action? Flip a coin to see who gets to call the opening weight and alternate calling attempts until one or the other fails for the new WR?! or just say screwit and have a race to 350-360? Quote
vikingsrule92 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Ryan, I have no hope of competing with you guys as I'd be lucky to get 300 but I'd be really interested in doing that just for the sake of competing. 2" Vbar was the only event I thought I had a shot of getting top 10 or top 5 at before it was eliminated, I want to show I'm good at something at least Quote
