popeye76 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 i was wondering what would be a good way to train the "set "part of the gripper. i can close a #3 using a mms. but when i try to set a #3.5, i can only get an 1/8 or less of my pinkie around the handles. i knew it would be a hard gripper but DAMN! is there something i can do to train for this or do i need to just keep fighting with it? Cannon Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Some people train "power sets". Take a big gripper and set it as deep as possible. Another suggestion is to work on your technique and get it dialed in perfect. I am a believer that the same set is not for everyone. Paul Knight has probably the best set instruction video out there, but for me I have found his style difficult to adapt. So work with different handle positions, etc, that fit your hand proportions. That could make all the difference. Otherwise, work on non gripper open hand stuff like thickbar, rolling thunder, wide pinch. Also, start training your wrists if you are not currently. My wrists continue to limit my ability to set a heavy gripper with Paul's push style, for example. Good luck! Quote
