rniel Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 My friend who is a powerlifter has pretty big hands, long fingers, does a lot of deadlifting and shrugs for years with a double overhand grip until it gets too heavy and does his dumbell rowing up to 215lbs. or so without straps but has done no specialty grip work other than that before. I had him give my rolling thunder a shot and he lifted 195 pretty easy. He thought he was good for 215 and barely missed that. Isn't this pretty good for a first try at this?? I was amazed. rniel Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 sometimes i hate genetics. Yeah I have been working with it for about a year now and only managing 150. I hate to even admit that here it's embarassing. Quote "I don't suffer from insanity. Cool this was useful to me. I just started grip training ( and I've been powerlifting for almost a year ), and yesterday was the first time I tried to max out on the rolling thunder and I got 170-ish ( I'm not exactly sure how much the bar weighed ), so I guess that's not TOO bad. I bet with a little practice/training, I'll be able to do a lot more. I can almost touch my thumb and middle finger when I grab the rolling thunder. chriselv Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 sometimes i hate genetics. If he's a powerlifter and has done the excercises described in the first post for several years, I wouldn't "blame" the genetics. Of course it's a huge advantage to have big hands, but a lot of deadlifting, shrugs etc. without straps and with overhand grip is very good for the grip I have pretty small hands, and I did 165 the first time i tried RT. I think I gained the most of my RT strength by deadlifting a lot, both with mixed grip and overhand grip. Quote
