Wade Gillingham Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Wade, has any woman competed in the grip gauntlet?Who has faired the best? We let women use two hands and close the T with one. Lifting the blob with 2 hands is still very hard. We have only had a handful of women do this. We have discussed a womens one hand challenge but it just hasn't happened yet. Quote

While I was watching a couple women tried it - neither appeared to be a serious strength athlete (no obvious big muscles etc) - but they got the RT up - couldn't tell on the trainer from where I was standing and neither lifted the Blob with two hands. One thing I must say about those girls who try this kind of thing - their intensity and determination are certainly right up there with any of the guys. I think we might be surprised how well some of the women might do on a challenge of their own. I've wondered too about how many women compete in grip comps, generally speaking? There was one woman at the MMM in January but that was my first grip comp to watch so I don't know if that was rare or not. andurniat Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 My girlfriend has closed the Sport gripper and enjoys training grip (we rock climb during the summer). Her goal is to close the Trainer. She has started to see a good improvement in her climbing strength/endurance from training her grip on a regular basis. mightyjoe Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Jill Mills (former strongest woman) closed my #2 at a strength contest in Arlington Texas in 2001. She failed several times but finally got it. She's obviously strong though. She deadlifts and squats more than most men. Mighty Joe Quote If you focus on your problems, you'll have more problems. I sure won't be closing the #2 anytime soon but the Trainer is getting closed on rare occasion. Looks like her site is gone, but here is a cool video from her. She had/has (can't remember which) the women's record on Rolling Thunder. Edited March 17, 2009 by Cannon Quote

From that start, I found a few other sites to look at too. Her 2007 RT record was 65.5kg/144lbs apparently.
