Wade Gillingham Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Too much to cover in great depth - here's what I can remember: http://www.jackalsgym.com/blog.aspx?user_id=1&blog_id=96 Quote

climber511 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 And once again Wade just quietly forgets to mention that he probably lifted the Blob - RT, and closed the gripper hundreds of times or more over the weekend. Instead he brags (deservedly so) on guys who managed it once. That's a class act Wade! Quote When people used to ask him how it was he became so incredibly strong, it was always the same, "strengthen your mind, the rest will follow". The Mighty Atom Age wrinkles the body. Wade Gillingham Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Great write up Wade! That RT, even at only 197 was seriously tough. Just to clarify this, we had a problem with the new handle and had to switch to the old handle for day 3. We dropped the weight down to medium format 197, 2.5, and blob for day 3. The first two days were 207 with the new handle and everyone who completed the challenge did it when the handle was rotating freely. Quote
stew2 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Nice write up Wade I'd like to thank you, your brothers and GNC for putting it out there for us to play. I'm sure it's quite a task to put up with the onslot of people everyday. Next year I'll try to give myself credit . Paul Knight Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Thanks for the shout out Wade, it was a pleasure meeting you - can't wait until next year. Chris is right - Wade your too humble ..... I was probably around the Gauntlet for no more than an hour and a half or two total and saw Wade lift the RT and the Blob at the same time probably on 3 or 4 seperate occasions ......... no telling how many times he did it over the whole weekend Awesome stuff Wade!!! Chris Mathison Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Good stuff Wade.. Last year I got 1 out of 3.. This year 2 out of 3 so you know what that means for next year. Quote

Guest Bullitt Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 What event "gets" most people? CofC gripper, blob, or RT? A buddy and i are training for the next gauntlet and were wondering which event trips the most people up. Thanks in advance. Mike Quote
chris mason Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I gave the Rolling Thunder a try to no avail... Lol, I didn't think it would happen. My excuse is that I pulled a PR deadlift using a hook grip at Westside earlier that morning.... Well, on second thought, no excuse, I wouldn't have gotten it anyhow... Quote

Bobby Lashley tried in LA at the Fit Expo. He didn't give it much effort - did the RT and that was about all he really tried. There were a couple big guys that came through and did the RT only. Quote
Chris Mathison Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 So the moral of the story is if you want to have a big RT then just get stronger overall.. Quote
The Natural Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 (edited) So the moral of the story is if you want to have a big RT then just get stronger overall.. I think a number of people on this board with big RT numbers, esp. Steve (maybe Laine too?) insist that if you want a big RT, you must train the RT. It's not really an osmosis lift. This has been my experience as well. I'll let them speak for themselves though. -Rex Edited March 17, 2009 by The Natural Quote "It would be simpler if they had two classes: open and handicapped. If you’re under 200 pounds, under 18 years old, over 50 years old, female, retarded, or missing any limbs, you have the option to compete in the handicapped class. Otherwise you lift in the open class."
jad Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 So the moral of the story is if you want to have a big RT then just get stronger overall.. Or one could say, grow bigger hands; as I doubt many of these Pro-strongmen, wrestlers, etc...that seem to do so well on the RT, have a sub-8" hand. Quote Proud member of the Feat Cheaters Club!
