Grade 5 In About 30 Seconds

After tja posted Matt's "Superkink" tutorial, I went and tried the 1/4" G5. This bend has been kicking my butt for a while now. The last time I bent one, it took about 15 minutes. This morning I got one in about a minute and a half. This evening I tried it again and got it in a minute. I was feeling good, so I tried again on video and got it in about 30 seconds. :rock

Note to self: When you put on a metal song to get pumped up, take it off random, so you don't get some weak acoustic number at the end. :blush

errr...15 minutes to 30 seconds?!?! what's a "superkink" anyway? seriously, i have no idea.

strong bend though. and you're right - never shuffle the metal songs. i've been in that boat before. which is why i became a fan of killswitch :cool

Basically what it boils down to, is being explosive on the kink. My problem wasn't so much not getting the bar high enough. I always have it up by my neck. My problem was not hitting it hard enough on the first hit. I was kind of easing into it, and wasting all my energy. Now I go in with the mindset that I am going to absolutely annihilate it. :rock :rock

"Superkink" is just a term I use for exploding into the bend. Greg Amidon explained it better:

Become explosive. This is THE most important thing in my opinion. Practive with a bar you can get pretty easy and EXPLODE into it. Practice hitting the bar harder and harder untill you feel like you will bend it to completion in a one second hit.

Overcome your fear. You have to learn to unload into it without fear. This sounds funny to new benders, but overcoming your natural fear is a very important mental aspect of bending. Taking a bar and unloading on it is very difficult if you are worrying about tearing your muscles from the bone or breaking your wrist. The reality is in order to get a "True" max attempt you must be exploding into the bar. Most people I see starting off start generating force into the bar and then increasing it, then quiting when they dont feel movement. This is never going to get you to bend at your peak.

Very Nice Bend Nick :rock I agree with Matt, the grd 8 is going down and totally agree with Matt and Greg about exploding into the bar. Amp up your intensity a bit like Gazza and you will be making many Prs in the near future :rock:rock
