Bob Lipinski Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Good stuff, please don't lock this topic, lots of witnesses and vids to follow for some things. It was me, Thorton, Zach, Incindium (Jesse), Matt Collins (local guy), Taylor Wilson, and Paul Janette (posts here I think). Started with grippers. Zach got a great video of the MM0, I will post it tomorrow. Dave was a hair or closer on Larkin's old gripper. I did the vulcan at level 15 with the narrow set. Got a video for all that crap. Zach and I played with hubs next. I forgot what Zach did, he might have got 60 but I am pretty sure he got 57.5. I did 65 without the pinky, didn't mean to do it that way but that is what happened. Dave and Paul thought the hubs were too gay so they played around with the heavy stuff. Dave managed to do a simultaneous high pull of a blob and an inch dumbell-like implement. Then Dave did a mock-up of the Grip Gauntlet, doing a LBC set (library card set, Dave insisted it should be CC set but I decided to be specific) #3, 210ish RT, and an older blob. Got a video of Dave doing both of those. Taylor Wilson did his first Bastard, and got the shiny to about 3 inches in 5 minutes. He also managed to stay relatively sober through the entire gettogether, and did not require a spot to walk from one feat to the next. A very big thank you to his girlfriend c-note, who put up with our stupid crap, hung out, and offered to help at the next MGC. Matt Collins (some here may know him, local Larkin guy and MGC regular) got his first bastard but it was outside the time limit. Good PR though. I did 245 on the 2" vbar pretty easy and called it a day because something else distracted me. It was either drinking beer, bending, or something else, I forget. Jesse played around on the pinch and whipped Zach and I good. Paul did 6 tens with a crossbar. Dave did the same+extra weight I think. Paul is a natural, if he gets into the grip shit watch out. He is sorta into it, but not as seriuosly as his strongman stuff. Played around with the hammer medley. We have to get rid of the lever to the rear at the contest unfortunately, will post more later in that forum. Zach taught me some good tips, and Dave whipped on me a little. Did the rim lifts. Thorton was a dick, he did more weight than me (he did 415) and he made fun of me the whole time. We did secret weapon holds, he beat me, then made fun of me some more. The Nice Guy of Grip has a dark side he doesn't want the public to know about- Who do you think started Ryan Klein's retirement? I ended up doing some heavy hammer to the face lifts, then Dave beat me on a long endurance rim lift. Basically my story of the night, Thorton beat me then laughed at me. Damn, one of the only things I did good on, the hub lift, he told me he was too busy doing blob+inch lifts to bother with the hub! It was great fun as usual, and I love seeing all the guys. Jerri worked her ass off to give us food and be a good picture-taker and hostess. Don as usual taught us something new again and kept motivating us. And my buddy Dave kept whipping my ass! tja Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Sounds like you had great time Congrats on the PR's. Quote
dthor Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 This is the most I've ever laughed on the internet. I did whip on Bob a little. Sorry Bob I set up the Grip Gauntlet to try with the heavy version. Good day to have it, as the Arnold was the same day. I know not the same as getting down and seeing Wade, but I pretty much hate the Expo. I did witness Paul Jennett lifting an older York Blob. I don't believe he has a Blob to train on, so this was very impressive to me. Also he was close to lifting the Inch. Zach helped Matt and Taylor move up a level on their bending. Don Larkin had a pretty good run on the Secret Weapon. As always it was great to get together and see everyone. Thanks also to Jerri for everything. Quote
Incindium Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 It was a lot of fun as always at Larkin's. My personal highlight was getting 5 10's up for the first time. Zach also lifted 5 10's for the first time as well. It certainly got me motivated to start training hard for the MGC in May. Also thanks again Bob for loaning me the 40lb Blob and giving me that homemade 2" vbar. Its always great to talk to Don and learn from someone who has done this stuff all his life. Jerri's lasagna really hit the spot as well. Quote Loyal Supporter of US HANDSTRENGTH
MalachiMcMullen Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Two words- Venison Lasagna. Jerri, that lasagna was absolutely amazing!!! I got 62.5 up on the hub easily but I couldn't get it off the ground so I cheated the thumb side up an inch to start. I tried pulling 160 on Bob's pinch setup several times throughout the day and failed every time, of course. Pulled 5 10's and couldn't do it again, got a semi-strict lever with Bob's 20, and so on. MalachiMcMullen Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 When you say 'Old gripper' are you refering to a Silver Crush? No, it's an old Tetting gripper with short, unknurled handles that is super tough. Quote Zach Coulter Goals #1- The Planche
Incindium Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 A Witness is all that is needed to be added to the Gripboard feats list right? Zach I'll be your witness that you had the 5 10's deadlifted up. I don't know if it would be appropriate for you to be my witness but I got them up a couple times with my left hand so there should be some other people who saw my lift. Plus I think there may be a photo... I think Taylor's GF took a picture of me with them. Quote Loyal Supporter of US HANDSTRENGTH

And Taylor/his GF/Paul and likely Bob saw at least one of our lifts. Quote Zach Coulter Goals #1- The Planche
