NickZ726 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 While search the net and looking for a way to spice up my pinch grip work outs I came across this article by Brad Johnson http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/274/ I was intrigued by the pinch grip push ups and thought I'd have a go.... Then was humbled very quickly when I couldn't do a full one and had to drop to my knees. My question is has anyone besides Brad Johnson had any success with them? if so any advice for technique of this push-up. I think I have a good grasp of training for bodyweight exercises as I have been doing them for many years and can work out progression quickly, but I think I am missing some technique. The push-up feels like it puts a odd pressure on my wrists even from my knees. So basically any advice would be great. Nick Quote
Jacobs86 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Try setting your pieces of 2x4 horizontally instead of vertically as shown. This should help ease the pressure on the wrists. Quote Goals MMS 2.5 3 25Ibs pinch rehabilitate knee Improve crush, sweep is good!!
meelhama Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Weighing 34lbs also helps. Ditto, welter weight + strength = some amazing FOS, but you just can't duplicate this sort of thing if you're 200lbs. I am not particularly heavy at 6' 2" 160-170lbs but I guess it will just take longer being not small. Just like ever other bodyweight exercise, except getting things from the top shelf Quote
VahnCruz Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I have always prided myself on being decent at different pushups, but good lord. The funny thing is the grip isn't what gets me its the pushing up from that position completely different than normal. I like it, I shall add it to my workout from the knees until I can do it right. bencrush Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I'm glad that everyone took that in the spirit it was written in. Brad is a beast. Too bad we never seem to be able to meet up. His bending would take on a completely new level in a month. Quote
foxyj75 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I'm starting to realize that at my weight(255#), crazy variations like this are close to impossible. I used to be 170-180# and just a fair bit weaker than I am now. Then I could do all kinds of bodyweight stuff easy. Now it's hard to even do a chin or pullup! I have decided however, that I am going to get a good bit leaner very soon. That should make stuff like this much more attainable!!
