JDarty6173
Ok, well I finally put one of my bends on video last night. I decided to go ahead and do a cert video with a 5.5" fbbc Grand Shiny. The video should be up sometime later tonight when my training partner/witness THE BRUTE gets home from work and can upload it. From the first hit till I measured the bend to 2" was just about 1 minute. But I took about 20 seconds or so during the bend to take 1 layer of wrap off. So about 40 seconds or so of actually bend time. I was really surprised by how easy of a bend this was.. I have been working with mostly 7" stuff for a couple weeks now and was concerned my short bending might have suffered. But I guess not. I also took a shot at a 5.5" Edgin right after that. But it didn't go so smoothly. I hit it a couple times and got it moving, but the bend was not happening. The kink was easy but got stuck after about a 30 degree bend. My hands started hitting each other before the bar would do any more than flex. I felt like I just had it started way off center. Well I unwrapped and turns out that the threaded portion was pointed almost straight toward the ground. You could see a wide crack in the threaded portion and it was just kinda barely hanging on. So I guess next time I will cut the threads off before trying that bend again.. it was quite disappointing. But I will get the grand shiny video link posted as soon as it is up. foxyj75
Man, you could've taken a little bit longer to bend a grand shiny!! Sheesh, that bar eluded me for a long time. Can't wait to see the vid!
bencrush
Great bend, that eluded me for a long time too! I almost got a 5.5" Edgin today. Mistakenly though I had put a 6" Edgin in there. They definitely get nasty when the threads are left on there. I almost always cut the threads off Edgins if possible. I've broken nearly a dozen of them off. JDarty6173
Ok, well for better or worse here is the video of the bend. This is the 1st bend I have gotten on video, so it may not be perfect. We need to work on our camera work a bit needless to say.

JDarty6173
congrats Jon! very very easy ,awesome display of strenght , u killed the bar!!!! Thanks Hugo, to be honest it surprised me just how easy it was. Especially after being fatigued from a heavy 2 hour bench session. That is a HARD piece of steel to make look so easy John!!! Thanks man, the kink was a piece of cake... And I just naturally have a strong crush so i when the bar gets harder I also get stronger. So it works out. JDarty6173
excellent job! amazing crush Thanks Paul. I never really have much trouble on a crush unless I am several difficult bends in and fatigued. I more often than not crush stuff while sitting down. So standing up with it just made it even easier. JDarty6173
Man! I better get going! You're right on my heels!! Big congrats Jon!! Thanks Fox, I couldn't have gotten this far this fast without you. Your videos helped me learn to bend more than anything else. I think I'll hit a quick Magnificent Shiny and get it on video sometime this week, then start working on some REAL steel
JDarty6173
VERY impressive Jon . You've got at least a mag shiny, if not shorter I don't think the mag will be too much trouble. I do need to work on my short bending some more though. I generally have to add an extra wrap just to keep my hands spaced farther apart so they don't hit too soon.. So I need to spend some time practicing and watching video. My best short bends have been a magnificent bastard and a 4.5" red, but those had no spring to them. I think I'll hit a quick Magnificent Shiny and get it on video sometime this week, then start working on some REAL steel The jump from the grand to mag shiny seemed to me to be bigger than the previous shiny jumps, but with your power, it shouldn't be that big a deal. I think it's the bend radius coming into effect with the legs so short. Have you tried a mag brutal hex yet? I honestly thought it was harder than the mag shiny. WAAAAY harder kink on the hex at that length. It just never gives up and kinks; it just keeps banana-ing into oblivion. Try one if you get the chance, its a challenge to say the least! Can't wait to see the mag shiny vid! Edited January 20, 2009 by Foxman

Paul Knight
Jon - I watched your vid again, but this time heard you say something about your wraps, that they have had a few years of use ........ have you been bending that long? Well I did some bending for about 6 months back in about 2003 - 2004. Ended up with best bend of a 5 inch grade 5 slim style. That and reverse grip was really the only thing I could do at the time.. Had no idea how to properly bend DO. But I mostly was just bending high volume with 60D nails. Then I quit bending and did not pick it up again until 3 months or so ago. I know my wraps look pretty shredded, but they still work for me.. I have several sets of new leather from FBBC, but still prefer my old ones.
