Changing lives with ironmind.com

This weekend I visited some college buddies.  One of them was an old roommate who has a serious physical problem.  It all started after we watched Fight Club three years ago.  Naturally, we did what any young men would do, and immediately went out side after the movie ended and fought each other.  Well, another buddy playfully body slammed my roommate and severely ruptured a disk in his back.  For the next three years he would be crippled with pain.

The sad part was that he was a very large and physically fit individual.  He didn’t play sports in college, but in High School he was a wrestler and cross-country runner. From those days, he has developed and maintained a desire for streneous activity, so always lifted hard.  After his back injury, he hasn't been able to lift anything, so he’s gotten soft and depressed.

This weekend, I introduced him to the Captains of Crush grippers, and I have never seen an individual so excited over an exercise.  He said it was the first strenuous activity he’s done since he was body slammed in college, as every form of strength training left him cramped-over in pain.

He cranked on my CoC’s for the entire day and couldn’t stop talking about them.  We got on-line and ordered him a catalogue from IronMind, and to top it off, I gave him my T and #1 gripper.  It was an incredible experience; I haven’t seen this guy so energetic since… well, ever.

I fully expect him to close the #3 gripper in his lifetime.  I’d almost guarantee it.

I guess this is just a big Thank-You to IronMind and the GripBoard for giving me the ability to enliven a depressed life, and a Thank-You from my friend who has found an outlet for strength training.

Interest someone in something and watch them grow.  It is awesome-I try to do it everyday in my interactions with people.

I introduced my brother to the COCs over the summer.  He is strapped for cash with 2 little girls and one on the way and at the time-I only had #1-#3.  He was estatic and fell in love with the things asking millions of questions and squeezing on them all day long.  It felt good to show my "big" brother something cool and then show him how to crush things.  I felt awful when we left his house and I had to take my grippers with me.  This Christmas a package from Ironmind will arrive on his doorstep with the T-#3 in it.  I hope he enjoys them as much as I have.

You know-my wife's brother is a raging alcoholic with money problems-he beats his wife, etc.   Every day I thank the Lord I have hobbies and interests to keep my body, mind, and soul active and healthy.

"Every day I thank the Lord I have hobbies and interests to keep my body, mind, and soul active and healthy."

  Right on, Rick.

About 7 years ago, I gave up Olympic lifting for JimBeam and Camel's.  Then, about 13 months ago, I gave up JimBeam and Camel's in exchange for PowerLifting, HandStrength Training and Distance Running.  It was quite the transition, and something I'm thankful for every day.  I now devote a lot of my time to shareing my passions with people with the hopes of helping them fill their lives with something productive.  Ya know what?  It's working...  :D

Thats how I got into grip training - I have degenerative disk disease in my lower two disks.  At the time (~30yrs) the two doctors I was seeing suggested I have the disks fused together.  They told me I would have to give up my job and the style of weightlifting I enjoy.  I decided not to get the disks fused and hit a good stretching, core strength program

A friend introduced me to grip training and everything else is history.  With a solid core trainging program my back is stronger than ever now.  Have your friend join the board...I'd love to share some grip/core training w/him.

In 1970 being able to stand for only one minute at a time,

I was placed in traction for twelve days. Then I could stand

for two minutes.

Surgery was unaviodable. The results were wonderful, but

always I avoid anything that would cause a revisit of those

'wonderful' days...

:(

Bill's right, leaning over to polish that thing everyday can be quite strenuous on the back. :D
