So Gazza man, I wasn't gonna ask but since Paul already did, is there any chance of a 1/2" hrs bend anytime?

Paul and Tim :D At the moment i am working on some 7/16" and 1/2" drillrods braced and unbraced as well as some big stainless its a slow process but i am having abit of progress now and then.

Well you know I already said my bit on the 1/2" crs but as for technique and the Kaz analogy, this is true for the most part but Gazza has bent 0.4" drill rod in IM pads reverse. So that is about like with like I should say.

If GAZ was part KAZ and KAZ was part GAZ whos to say what could be bent :D i think the names sound similar and maybe we both have a similar mental focus and desire to achieve things in are own sports/hobbies but there can be only one KAZ and one GAZ :D and were KAZ was destined to become a strongman i was destined to be a Steel Bender.

What if there was a guy that bent 8"*1/2" 303 Stainless over a peroid of time? :whistel

i don't think 1/2" x 8" CRS will be done braced for a VERY long time and the 8" stainless at 1/2" i'm sorry is NEVER going to happen :blush

Gazza I thought you already did 1/2" HRS braced? I know you did 1/2" Brass which is about as hard as HRS inch for inch.

Guys, I don't know how much I should be included in this discussion :D Even though I'm 15, I can't imagine ever even thinking about bending the things you guys are talking about.

We may have progressed a lot in these last few years but I FIRMLY believe that no one will EVER bend 1/2" CRS unbraced. There is a genetic stopping point!!!! No one will ever total 5000, or DL 2500, Bench 1500, or bend 1/2" CRS unbraced.

definately agree with derek this is just crazy talk gains come very fast AT FIRST but it's slowing down a lot i think and the human body can only allow so much the 1/2" CRS will prevail have you guys ever held that stuff?! :blink i could barely lift it :D

Bench press current record I believe is 1010lbs, so 1500lbs slight possibility as the steroids get more improved. (Note: I do NOT condone steroid use at all, but as far as bench press goes there is never going to be a natural bench presser who will perform such a lift). As far as the rest, NEVER will happen ;)

I don't think steroids are the culprit there as much as the advances in multi-ply gear.

I beg to differ. I believe Ryan Kennelly(Record holder at 1070 ;) ) is on record saying that a 1500 bench is more than possible in the next few years. Who would've thought a 1200 squat was possible in the 1960's when no one had squatted even 900? 1200 is 300lbs more, a universe away in weightlifting terms just the same as a hexabastard is a universe away from a G8. I'll also point out that the human body is still changing. I'll specifically point out that, on average, the human race is growing taller. In George Washington's time, 5'7 was a decently average height, and now 5'10" is considered average.

I don't think it's due to an evolving process, but rather the fact that there is so much bovine somatotrophine(Bovine growth hormone) in the meat. America is a prime example of this. Look at the cultures that eat less meat, especially the nations that do not allow bovine growth hormone injections in the meat. These individualls are not as tall, muscular, etc as their American counterparts. Just a thought ;)

I'll give you that, it makes sense. But the fact remains, as a species, humans are getting bigger.

Don't tell Paul Anderson that.

The thing I like about steriods is that they don't develope tendons, liagments and bones as quickly as muscle. So stuff like steel bending has a natural defense against cheating with steriods because you will just have really strong muscles that tear your weak tendons and snap your bones. :D

A bench suite might help with unbraced crush, I really have no idea though.

Paul,

The increase in difficulty due to steel composition comes in percentages where and increase in size is usually a set 1/16 of an inch. Look at it this way if you had a 303 stainless bar that was 1 foot in diameter and a A36 HRS bar that was 1 foot and 1/16 of an inch, which one would be the stronger bar? 3/16 inch hrs would definately be harder then 1/8 stainless but as you got up I feel it catches it and surpasses it. 5/16 hrs is probably as hard or harder than 1/4 stainless but I have a much harder time with a shiny than I do with 3/8 by 7 inch hrs.

Either way, there may not be an absolute limit but there is definately a slow down point where the gains are much more minute then cease for each individual.

1/2 inch by 7 inch CRS? I can't see it. Heck I wish mythbusters could do a special and put a bar that must needs to be crushed on a human hand and push it with a press and see how the hand holds up.

We're talking about strength here that a man that can do that should be able to take some leather and get the lug nuts off his car. I mean there comes a point.......

All you guys who firmly believe this is possible, let's take it one step further, do you think 5/8 by 7 inch is possible? How about 3/4 by 7 inch stainless? How about a bar that's as thick as it is long? Just mash it and reconfigure the molecules.

As for the 1/2 inch by 8 inch CRS braced? Aaron had some 3/8 CRS that hit only 480 lbs which was only slightly harder than HRS so maybe if you found the equivelent in 1/2 inch then maybe with a ton of work. Stainless? Unless I change my mind, I'm not trying it.

What was the original question ha ha?

Good discusion guys. That's what I like about this board, we can all debate without getting ugly.

Later,

Tim

You make a good point Tim. Hell, if I knew how to make ballistic jelly, I'd peform that very experiment with a drill press. That would prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what kind of pressure a human hand is capable of withstanding. Even if a man had deadened and damaged the nerves in his hands so badly he could no longer feel his palms :)

not to take anything away from your post tim it made a lot of sense and you made great points about everything you talked about but as for this stock comparison i have to say the 1/4" stainless on the kink is a little tougher but they both have a really fun crush that is equal i would say at 6" but the kink for me on the HRS is just weak and the sweep is non existant and wouldn't stop anybody so 1/4" 303 is harder on the kink and sweep than the 5/16 A36 but they both load up on the crush :) great post tim and i agree with everything you said :rock

I want to say that I disagree with you here Tim. I am a certified shiny bastard bender but I haven't completed a big shiny bastard, should I even think about bending a grand shiny? No. I should go step by step. Big then 6.25 then huge and so on. Even thinking about a KOAB will be impossible. But we know Gazza bent a grand KOASB in IM pads like nothing. Who would've thought of that 2 years back? Even one year before his bends? I remember not long before his video on the grand KOASB in IM pads (probably 2 weeks earlier) people said it's impossible to bend a KOAB in IM pads. But about two weeks later Gazza came and destroyed a 5.5" KOASB in IM pads after several other WORLD CLASS bends in IM pads. Gazza even moved a 7/16 stainless. Who knows what he is doing now? And lets not forget Alexander Zass HUGE bend (was it 5/8*5" square?). SO until someone bends a MOAB THEN we should think about 1/2. And until the 1/2 falls THEN we should think about stronger bends. That's my opinion and I believe in it. :)

Edit: I like the 3 in a row KOASB in IM pads :D

I agree that setting limits will create limits, but still, 1/2" x 7" CRS is hard, very hard!!

Alawadhi, the Zass bend of 5/8" Square (it was a railroad spike, which are more like 6" I think but gazza will know for sure) is a myth not believed by many. Especially with the way most circus performers lied back then to gain fame and popularity. After all it was what they made money for, they embellished their accomplishments to gain further fame. No one will ever bend something that big, believe me I have a Railroad spike, it's not bendable by human hands.

I know that bend is hard to believe. But we should not limit people's strength based on our strength, right? Second, Zass is not a human :D I have his book (from 1925,very old and rare) and you see he does incredible stuff!

I can't view the link because it's blocked through our ISP. Anyway it's only (I guess) one book so that should be it. Read and you will see how powerful he was.

It's this book right? http://www.amazon.com/amazing-Samson-Alexa...6695&sr=1-1

It's written in 1926 and is called "The Amazing Samson" "As Told By Himself".

But it's not the only book:
