Jaz
I want to get a new grip tool, something that will give me more useful hand strength not gripper style strength really. Like something that would give me a better score on a grip dynamometer. Although based on some of these machines i guess its not a big deal which machine style i get. I just want I was thinking of The sorinex g-rex (seems more gripperish tho) Or the ironhorse gripanator. The Beefbuilder grip machine was also good looking, as well as the IM one. Also does anyone know where i can pick up a formulator,it seems like they dont sell them anymore? Or if the Pegasus 2 or whatnot is any good? Any thoughts on these items? I just find that grippers dont do it for me, i got the begginers strength without much training (#2) and to be honest i havnt trained much since then, but when i did i didint see any incease in strength at all. SO i think machine is the way to go, ive never liked the feel of elastics, or springs. ETC
Jaz
Ive also been hearing about this "Secret weapon" how does it work? How does it compare to these other machines, is it superior or what?
Jaz
ah cool , the sorinex works as a beef builder as well as the crushing tool. (after seeing some pics)_

Get a Grex, they have 3 machines built in to one, the best grip machine out there if you have the money. AT your stage in grip training the Secret weapon would just obliterate your hands and destroy your tendons. I don't advise it until you can AT LEAST close a #3 and you've been grip training for a LONG time.

The g-rex, does it work as like the IM go-really grip machine too or what? (i posted that it does but im not sure, it was just diagrams i was going off of.) svr
I absolutely agree with vikingsrule92, I have a SW and you don't want any part of that. Hell, I don't want any part of that. I have a peg 2 and it is one of my most enjoyable exercises. Climber 511 makes a climber curl you might want to check out.

The machine is entirely for negatives, read my post, don't get it. Yes they are both idenctical in the normal function, but the Grex also has foot pedals for BW negs, a pinch plate, and the gripper handles which work somethinglike a secret weapon. Scott Styles
Don has a secret weapon in his gym you should be able to try next weekend Steve. Wait until after the contest though! Typically they are homemade. Joe Kinney used to sell them, not sure if he does anymore. I've seen Climber511 make a rack mounted version. I'm pretty sure Tom (tsuk) has made at least one for sale. I believe Sybersnott posted the specs at one point - maybe you could work something out with Mike to get one made? I read on the board that Warren Tetting also sells them. I've found the more grip work I do, the more I trend back to the basics. Stuff I'd get before a grip machine: 2" wrist roller Block weights Sledge hammer Big squeeze from FBBC (pinch barbell with rounded edges) Axle 2" V-bar It's rare to find a log where someone consistently trains a with grip machine. Mlstrass
Only thing I would add to Scott's list is a RT handle and hex blocks. Steve...sent you a PM about the SW.
Rick Browne
the gripper handles which work something like a secret weapon. A misconception in the comparison of the G-Rex handles function, to the SW
vikingsrule92
the gripper handles which work something like a secret weapon. A misconception in the comparison of the G-Rex handles function, to the SW Well I've never used either excessively, and I've never even touched a Grex. I was going on what I had heard from others. Bob Lipinski
Here are my thoughts- If you are bored with the grippers, you might be bored silly with a grip machine. I would advise against any big dollar grip machine purchases unless you are totally nuts about grip stuff. Scott has a nice list.
ae_yogi
I made myself a Secret Weapon and I am really happy with it. It works great for negatives but it also works with positive closes as well. My personal opinion is that it would work for beginners as well as crusty old grip veterans.
vikingsrule92
I just re-read your post and I realized how stupid we all were to be recommending different gripper machines to you. Bob, thanks for pointing that out to me. You say that you barely train but when you do you don't see any strength gains. Well duhhhhhhhh!!!! If you're not training consistently and with determination you WILL NOT make gains!!! A grip machine is not going to change that! It's you that's the problem, not your equipment. Train harder, smarter, and more consistently and you WILL make gains. Oh and if it's something to boost your gripper strength, get some blockweights before you even consider a grip machine. grumpycuban
Finally something I can agree with Viking on. Just kidding big guy. Block weights(hex heads) are #1 for increasing overall hand strength IMO. You can not go wrong with these. As Viking and Bob say though, nothing you can buy will make you stronger unless you are going to train, so don't let your wallet get in the way if you're not dedicated in your quest for hand strength.Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
