Anthony151
Hello members of gripboard. My name is Anthony and im 16. I am here because i have an interest in grip training. I have a little experience with grippers in the past but more of my experience was in sledgehammer levering. Anyways i would like to tell you a little about my goals. I as said earlier am a novice to gripper training so please dont insult me for not being as strong as all of you. I just bought a set of BoneCrusher grippers to use for my training until i can afford some Ironmind COC. I do own the KTA program but i will be waiting a few months before getting into that so i can get used to training. For now i will just be testing and working on increasing my reps on the BoneCrusher #200. I am going to be starting out slow so i can get used to things, i look forward to updating this daily. I also hope its okay for novices to post routines.
TravisRush
Hey, no worries man. I have come a LONG ways, and I still can't close my 250. You can do it!
Anthony151
thank you for the support TravisRush. here is yesterdays routine, remember i am taking it easy for 2 weeks and am not going to be doing negatives, overcrushes, strap holds and such for a few more weeks. i started with Warmup 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 100 with each hand. Workout 10 sets of 1 rep with the BC 150 with each hand. 3 sets of 1 rep with the BC 200 each hand. There was my workout for yesterday i could have done more but im not going to risk doing to much to soon. I will post todays workout a little later after i do it. Benedikt Farsmann
Welcome to the board! I'm new here as well and I'm looking forward to see you progress. I'll keep an eye on your log. -Ben
Anthony151
Welcome Klesen as well, thanks. Heres workout #2 very similer as day 1 as im not really changing it for a week. Warmup 2 sets of 5 reps with my BC 100 with both hands, 1 minute rest inbetween sets. Workout 10 sets of 1 with my BC 150, with each hand, 30 seconds rest between sets. 4 sets of 1 rep with my BC 200 each hand, 1 minute rest between sets. I feel like after just 2 workouts my hands have somewhat adapted to being able to close the grippers alot easier than workout 1. My hands are a little roughed up possibly blisters forming but will continue and will apply lotion if necessary. week 1 i will be performing this workout 5 days on and 2 off and will change it up alot next week. Well thats it for today Edited May 31, 2008 by Anthony151
neilkaz
Good to see you getting right into grip training, Anthony. You're smart to build up a base and to let your hands, fingers, tendons, etc get used to grippers. I suspect that in a week, you can start repping that BC150 and step up the overall volume of closes a bit. Soon you'll add overcrushes. You'll also likely be sore the day after a workout and want to take a day off. As a newbie, I suggest that you, for the first couple months, take a day off when ever you even think that you need to. Looking forward to your progress.... neilkaz ....
Anthony151
thank you neilkaz yes im basically working with singles for a week or two or three, of course their singles with a gripper i can close i will up the volume a little each week. todays workout was a little different a lot of improvement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Warmup 2 sets of 5 reps with the BC 100- Each hand 1 set of 8 reps with the BC 100- Each Hand 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 150-Each Hand Workout 15 sets of 1 rep with the BC 200, each hand, 1 minute between sets. 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 200, each hand lot more than last workout but it was mostly singles and i felt like i could have done some more but im not going to over do it. overall i felt good, Edited June 2, 2008 by Anthony151
neilkaz
Anthony..you did 5 fully closed reps with the BC200 for BH (both hands) ?...WOW..quite nice progress you are quickly having ! Keep it up .. neilkaz ..
Anthony151
Thank you yes i did close it 5 times, but what i find is i am a right handed person but my left hand seems to close grippers better than my right. anyways on that 5 rep set i scraped my blister off on the fifth rep im taking a day off but do you think i should tape that finger up. also tommorow i am starting a 1 month singles program kind of a GTG program mixed with the KTA idea and am using it to help my technique with the BC 200, ill tell you a little more about it tommorow. I was actually able to move my BC 250 a good distance, i would say in a month or 2 that will be shut and when i do get it shut i will provide a video. Anyways im just doing my own testing. thanks, Anthony,
neilkaz
Yep, Anthony..a day off is needed. Re: that blister..if it will hinder your next workout, tape it up ! If it clearly gets worse even taped, let it heal a couple days more. I don't want to sound like a know it all, but I've trained at least a dozen beginners at work and 4 years ago I was one myself and won't let you make my mistakes from back then. .. neilkaz .. Anthony151
Thank you for the help, i have read from many past mash monsters interviews and they all regret the injuries they got from starting to fast, so im not going to make that mistake. will post workout later. Anthony151
Ok to give you a heads up on what im doing now is a singles program where i workout 5 days a week. The idea is to do more each week. This 1 month program is to work on technique. As you may have seen i have alot of success with singles, heres what im doing for week 1. Wed- 6 singles with BC 200 thurs- 6 singles with BC 200 fri-6 singles with BC 200 sat-6 singles with BC 200 sunday-6 singles with BC 200 mon-off tues-off I will update you on how well each workout went ,and i will update you each week when my volume increases. Remember this program is not meant for direct strength gains its more to work on learning the feel of the gripper. although since im close to closing the BC 250 it may help a little with that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Todays workout Warmup 1 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 100 Workout 1 3 sets of 1 rep with the BC 200 Warmup 2 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 100 Workout 2 3 sets of 1 rep with the BC 200 I taped up my finger where the blister broke and everything went well. overall good workout, although feel like i havent worked out. Anthony151
Todays workout Warmup 1 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 100 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 150 Workout 1 3 sets of 1 rep with the BC 200 Warmup 2 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 100 Workout 2 4 sets of 1 rep with the BC 200 Today Went great i had complete control over the gripper with both hands. I taped up my middle finger until that heals. Probably one of my best workouts in terms of gripper control.
Anthony151
Warmup 1 set of 5 reps with the BC 100 Workout 7 sets of 1 rep with the BC 200 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well im on my third workout of this program and everything is going great. My technique has greatly improved and can close the BC 200 easily with both hands. I feel like i am improving very very quickly. I might not even do KTA for my next program as i have plenty of program ideas that i think will fit me better. I will keep this updated. 2 more days on then 2 days off. I dont feel overtrained at all and i think my weekly increases will work out great. At the begginning of the program i could almost get the BC 250 and i think by the last day of this program i will have it easily.
