No experience with that recent a stuff but in times past the shinier bastards have all been easier and when John gets the dark stuff in it's always really rough. My stuff I've sent Eric has yielded 3 calibrations. First was the "easy" shiny bastards that hit 385, then was the dark stuff that hit 450 then some "medium" shiny ones that hit 420.

Hope this helps!

I have felt your pain brother back when I was bending regularly and was in pursuit of killing off the Insane Bastards with a clear crisp cert video. I ran out of the Insanes I was bending and ordered another batch to get a better video done and they come in crazy hard. Even though John Beatty tries hard to keep everything on an equal playing field we all know that steel yield strength varies and that is the luck of the draw BUT.......

On the brighter side my friend once you can bend those then you will be stronger for the next batch for sure!

No problem then. If you bend this huge bastard then you know you are much stronger than before (isn't this our goal in the first place :) ) and you will bend a shiny. I have a bastard than is harder than a hex or at it's same level. Not the new insane HARD hex though. The normal ones at 485 pounds.

Are the new ones dark and kind of rusty/spotted? If so that sounds like my batch. Eric calibrated a couple at 430 lbs.

That CRS is like the older tough stuff, not that one batch that was crazy hard, but way harder than the shiny stuff. It's unfortunately luck of the draw, I get what my supplier gets. I like the shiny stuff better, that dark stuff always comed with a heavy coating of thick grease & takes a lot more cleanup time before I cut a lot of the time despite the thick grease, it has rust, to which I try to do quick polish with steel wool. The shiny has a thin layer of oil & cleans up quickly. I like to train with the hard stuff, as that makes more sense.

I just got mine and these are definitly harder than the im red that I tried. This was my first try with a bastard and it was very humbling, just got a small kink. Have to work with the square to get my strength up I guess. When I finally do get it I'll at least know it was a worthy bastard.

You'll have to bump this thread if you do get some cal'd. I'm interested in seeing what these are rated at.

Ha ha afraid not. I didn't have much of it. As a matter of fact I think my order was where John had to switch and put a couple of the new #450 dark ones. I really like the last shiny ones since they look really good and shiny but are a good solid 420. Noticably harder than the first "easy" shiny ones.

Some of the dark stuff has a crazy hard crush too. I've got some CRS from a steel supplier that is crazy hard and it's suppose to just be 1018.

Go figure.

Tim
