pjwilsondc
Just read this article by Ben Edwards. Looks like a good plan. Question is, if your weakness is the kink would you use the level below your max? Or just practice kinking the bar that is your max, or do iso's on the one above max? Right now my max is 1/4" x 6" HRS thanks in advance, PJ
Alawadhi
Can you post the article (the link)? Thanks!

bencrush
Just read this article by Ben Edwards. Looks like a good plan. Question is, if your weakness is the kink would you use the level below your max? Or just practice kinking the bar that is your max, or do iso's on the one above max? Right now my max is 1/4" x 6" HRS thanks in advance, PJ Thanks PJ! There are several methods you can use. If you want to get a stronger kink, you've got to at least attempt harder stock than your current max, if you want to improve it quickly that is. So attempting 1/4"X6" CRS, or maybe a timber tie (might be harder than most 1/4"X6" HRS) would usually give you quicker and better results than constantly working with something that is submaximal in intensity. Submaximal training has its place in any well rounded program, but that's what the volume day is there in the program for. Plus all your warmup bends are submaximal and will help grease the groove. To really bring your kink strength up considerably, you've got to devote some hard effort to the same length stock that you're focusing on, in your case it sounds like 6" is the length that you're focusing on. So I wouldn't recommend you try to increase your 6" kink strength by just cutting the 1/4" HRS down to a shorter length. That will of course improve your kink strength, but not necessarily at the 6" length. Better to go to a harder steel instead. Even 3/16"X6" Stainless-303 is harder than the 1/4"X6" HRS I've found. Then you could go to 1/4"X6" CRS. Then 1/4"X6" Drill Rod. 1/4"X6" Stainless-304. 1/4"X6" Stainless-303. 1/4"X6" Hex. 6" G5. 6" G8. And on and on, until you've built a super kink and turned it into a strength. I hope you also realize that there are so many methods and routines out there that will work for you. Everything works to some extent. It's just for how long. There are a good number of guys stronger than me on the boards who can give you great advice on everything from program design to strength-building exercises. pjwilsondc
Ben, Very thorough answer. Thanks. I'll give this program a go very soon, and then Yellow will be mine
matthcarl
Yellow will be mine And a lot more, I'd guess
kerbjr
Nice article Ben, bending has evolved so much since I started that it is just crazy. Brett
David_wigren
My kink has never been a weakness but I've unintentionally trained isos by just hitting bars above my maxbend. This has made my kink progress waaay past my crush, wich is now my big weakness. I only read parts of the article but it looks really good. Great job Ben Good luck in your training
bencrush
Thanks guys! Much appreciated. My training is way on the backburner these days. I have other things going on that tape up most of my time, but I am doing some moderate bending workouts. Well, mainly the crushdowns. TravisRush
How many bends should be attempted? I tried 4 kinks this week and am doing the next workout today...I just want to know for next week
gazza
Ben Thats a well thought out and put together article any beginner will get big results if they follow that to the letter i would have just added a few pics as well even of bigger stuff just for extra motivational purposes. I have a young lad at work who i bent some stuff for last week who hasnt left me alone since everytime i have a break or walk past his section hes there asking questions so what im gonna do now is print this off and give it to him tonight and even go and get the stock with him i will then get him to follow this program to the letter for 2-3 mths depending on his ability and desire and recouperation etc then if hes still there at the end and wanting more i will introduce him to the board and up his bending some more. Also nice to see that your crushing down big stuff these days its hard to leave the steel alone especially when it keeps calling.
bencrush
Thanks Gazza! That's quite a compliment there. Why on earth is the guy looking at my program when you're a whole different league ahead of my best bends though? My buddy Joe, who has apparently fallen off the face of the earth here on the board, just did a Big Shiny and crushed down a 5.75" Edgin tonight. He's going to be one to reckon with very soon. The trouble is keeping him motivated is super hard. He'd rather be out drinking. To each his own. Not like there's money in this, lol. gazza
To be honest ive lost alot of passion for the bending of late just been going through the motions so i cant really be botherted sitting down with someone and going through it all your article is ideal to just point him at and see where it takes him. He doesnt even know about the gboard yet and hes from the Czech Republic i thought i would just print your article off and give it him which i did last night in work one of his friends translated it into there language and used the office photo copier i am going to meet him later today and taking him to get some steel if he keeps it up for a few mths i will then introduce him to some stainless. Like i said its a nice thought out program ideal to start people off on and see if they stay the course.
MrZsasz
I was going to start a new thread but then I thought keeping all the questions for the program on the same thread might be a good idea. Anyway, just wondering what the next step up would be on the following: Kink - 7" Hex and Stainless Sweep - 7" 1/4 Square Crush - Bastard These are what I used last time and got them(though the Bastard was killer) and am sort of stuck as to what the next level of difficulty would be. I would like to stay in the 7" range for the duration, if possible, and not cut things down as that is the size that give me the most trouble. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.... I assume you are talking about 7" hex and stainless at 1/4" ? Give 8mm (5/16") HRS a try. I think you should be able to finish it from kink to crushdown
