Who Here Can Close A Pony Clip?

Can anyone here fully mash a pony clip with their thumb? I've been working on mine for a good few months and haven't made much progress. I can do negatives with it and stop the clip at about any point in the ROM but On a regular close I can't get past parallel (though recently I've realized that my form for negatives and my regular close form are different... In one my thumb is straight the whole time, the other I have it bent at the knuckle).

Anyways, I was just wondering what sort of training you did to get there. My pinch strength is already decent (I can pick up 2 35s and a 40-45 lb hex dumbell blob...) but I still feel like this thing is ages away.

Sound's like good work I have closed one but not on regular base's. I will caution you can strain your thumb if you overtrain them. I will use double thumb close's it's more stable when your thumb's get tired.

I can do about 8 reps on a tough 3202 pony clamp on a good day on my strong hand. on the bigger one I cant quit hold it closed on a neg yet but I'm getting close, maybe 1/4"

How big is a 3203? I'm using one that is around 3 inches wide when fully open. What sort of training did you use to get there aaron? is there much carryover with static pinching?

Back when I used to train with them for the blob I could close my 2" black handled one (black rubber tips) on command. Now I'm hit or miss with it. I have some smaller ones that are 3201s and I can get 15 or so reps if I stabilize it with my other hand. I have a 2" one with lime green rubber tips that is ridiculous. I can barely get it parallel. I guess they vary like everything else in grip.

my bigger one is a 3203. I started with negs on it when I was doing KTA the first time. I think I could get the 3202 or 2" one about halfway when I first started trying it. I worked up to singles with it supporting the fingers with the other hand, then singles without support, then reps. That is when I've used it. I try to hit my thumb from all different widths and positions. I think you get the best gains that way. I do some TTK now and then, static pinches with anywhere from 3/4" width, 1.5", 1 7/8", 2", 2.25", 2.5", 2 5/8" 2 3/4", 3", 4" 4.5", Blob, 5 10s, 3 25s, 2 45s, and now negs with 4 10KG plates. Just give it time and work consistently. thumbs take quite a while to build up and can be fragile if you don't take care of them. If you don't have alot of gear yet just working negs with the pony clamp and longer holds (10-15sec range) with a couple of plates on 2HP will do wonders. Hope some of this helps.

The strength varies a ton by brand. I bought one for 99 cents that I can close for reps. I have a Pony brand clamp that is challenging for me to close with 2 hands.

Went to Home Depot today and they had some lime green-handled ones on sale for 99 cents. I picked on up to try and couldn't even get parallel. Next I tried crushing it with R&P and I shut it but it was hard. Probably 90% as hard as my IM TUG #6.
