crackyflipside
Hey fellow gripsters! I've worked my way up to MMS #3 almost closed by about 1/2" (totally by accident; I thought I was closing the #2) My only problem is the set especially for a CCS or a no set close. My hands are just 6.5" from palm crease to middle finger tip. So with a good set without starting to close the gripper with the other hand to set it deep, my pinky will not even reach the other end of the gripper with my middle finger on the ring. So for me to set a CCS with a heavy gripper, I need to MMS it with both hands and then when my fingers are set, I release tension to let the gripper open up to CCS width. So is that the best method to set for people with small hands; because I have seen all the youtube vids about setting and when I put my thumb forward, it just makes the other leg of the gripper nearly impossible to reach without a deep set. shizen
6.5 or 7.5? If its actually 6.5 I would like to see picture because thats very small.

I believe the hand is measured from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger, not the crease of the palm. Doesn't sound like that small of a hand to me... MalachiMcMullen
Yes, it's fine to MMS it slightly to get the gripper into position. It sucks for us small handed guys but oh well. Get it set anyway you can, so long as you peform a full, clear and AT LEAST 2" set, you wont have to worry. matthcarl
For no-set closes, I have to start with just two fingers on the far handle, then squeeze just a little until I can get the rest of my fingers on before starting the real crush. My hands are about 7.25", so I don't know how much more difficult ths would be for you. TeemuI has some good videos of no-set closes on youtube that helped me. That is what I found out to be the best way for me to do a CCS. If I remember correctly, I first read about doing the CCS so on a post by Ben Edwards. Guest Bonzi
ok, curiosity killed the cat, but here goes. i just took my #4 and laid it across the bottom of the four fingers(stopped at pinkie) and NEARLY touched with the ring finger STRICT. 8+ inch hands. The typical set with the thumb forward and leg of gripper pushing up on thumb web?

Here you go, my small hands http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/crack...ng/DSC_0503.jpg you definitely have some of the smaller hands on the board-possibly smallest- how tall are you? Anyways makes all your feats that much better, you could probably make a great short bar bender.
matthcarl
probably make a great short bar bender. I don't know if it's true, but only one way to find out One of my brothers has hands about that size. He is my height, or maybe an inch shorter. He doesn't train grip, but now he has no excuses Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
climber511
Some things will be harder perhaps but they're the only hands you have so train hard and don't worry about it - it's one of those things you can't do anything about. shizen
yeah I'm pretty sure you can find that small hands might be an advantage in some things, but disadvantage in other things like pinch. Yet just train hard, now anytime someone with small hands says they can't do grip because of it they wont have any excuse.

Anyways makes all your feats that much better, you could probably make a great short bar bender. Let's go tiny hands!!! I'm about 5'7" - 5'8" and my wrists are 6.25". I haven't tried bending but I do have a solid axle and a thick v-bar (neither have knurling; smooth stainless steel) I know my hands are small and that may put me at a disadvantage for most grip feats but it would be a lame excuse to not work on grip. My goal is to close the #3 in April . I can TNS an easy #2 with my RH but that's after walking it a bit with my fingertips. My worry with the #3 is that walking the leg will be damn near impossible for TNS and stretching the legs out for a CCS will put me in a pretty sketchy situation. Main problem may also just be lack of experience (started training grippers 3 months ago) Edited March 14, 2008 by crackyflipside
