Alawadhi
We all know that the sq stock is full. Meaning that compaing a 5/16 round to sq is massive because sq is just more. So the hexabastard came in to fill the gap. Then the shiny came. But still the sq is light years away. So why not do a stock with 8 sides (I don't know what its called-octa?). Just like the hexa have 6 sides, try to make one with 8 sides. This way we will have more steel to bend. Thus making it a harder bend. Maybe even a 304 (or 303) stainless one. This is (I think) a good step to the FBBC sq. Edited March 7, 2008 by Alawadhi
timiacobucci
Why not just use a g5 and g8 for progression to the square same as 1/4" stock? When you can bend cut down shiny's do an edgin, when you can get cut down edgins bend a g8, when you can get cut down g8's then its time for the square. The progression is simple the hard part is getting stronger. I don't see the need for some crazy stock that would be impossible to find. The other stuff like hex brass is just for fun. I'm not trying to shoot you down I just don't see the need.
Booyah!!!
I have looked for some 8 sided stock and I know, it at least used to be available because I saw it on a metal weight chart. I have stopped looking, wore me out. Sure would like to get a hold of a bit.
Tim71
Actually, since steel is measured flat side to flat side, 8 sided steel or an "octobastard" would be easier than a hexabastard. Maybe a pentabastard would fill the bill. I've wondered about how hard 5/16 square HRS would be. Or maybe a milder crs. Tim

Tim I've got some 5/16 sq hrs here, I can bend a piece of it that's 6" long, but I'm still strugling with 6,5" 5/16 stainless. I have no idea for what should be used, but wouldn't 3/8 round hrs be something good?

Only a few people have managed to bend 5/16 stainless square at all. 6.5" would be world class! 1/4" stainless square, on the other hand, is easy enough that even a clown like me can bend it. Alawadhi
I don't see in his post a 6.5*5/16 stainless square. So i assume its a round stock.

Tim71
Actually, if you look at his post it says he has some 5/16 square HRS and he can bend it at 6 inches but is struggling with 6.5 inch shiny equivilent. Tim
luuc
Sorry for the misunderstanding, it's indeed round stainless that I struggle with. Edited March 8, 2008 by luuc
matthcarl
Sorry for the misunderstanding, it's indeed round stainless that I struggle with. As do most of us lesser benders
vikingsrule92
5/16" Square HRS would be WAYYY easy, probably only slightly harder then the 1/4" Square equivalent. 3/8" HRS was 495 at 7" for my batch but the crush is MUCH harder then that number says. The 3/8" Square HRS was 665 at 7" but the crush would again, be WAY harder then that number. Luuc, is that 304? Because if it's 303 then something doesn't make sense, given you've only bent a Bastard.
luuc
Derek, I'm sorry, but I don't know, just got it from a hardware store. But that bastard has been a while ago.

Okay luuc, sorry I forgot how long it's been since your Bastard . Well maybe you should try out a FBBC Shiny then? Then you'll be able to tell if it's 303 or 304 since the SHiny is 303 and MUCH harder than a 304 of the same length.

Not surprising that I failed on the big G8, given that I am but a mere bastard bender Also that bastard luuc bent didn't look all that difficult months ago when he did it
