MRabich
I just had to buy a Elite Stone Trainer! Fat Bastard's VBAR is $20 cheaper, I'm sure you can use it for all the same purposes.

Steve B.
It appears to be just a heavy duty loading pin with a clip collar on the end. I heard of doing this a few years ago for stone training.

I remember their vid on training stones without stones. Looks a lot safer than your typical loading pin though. Cunny
Is'nt that the same as David Horne's bear hug deadlift.
Jedd Johnson
Elite took an interest in marketing the stone trainer after seeing a video we did a while back on how to train for stones in a commercial gym with the sleeve from a broken barbell. They wanted to market it, and we said we would shoot some footage of exercises that could be done with the device. Yes, lifting the mass of Olympic plates is very similar to David Horne's bearhug lift. Yes, it also very similar to using a loading pin. You could certainly do that and get the benefit, but I can also say the stone trainer and the clip that comes with it are very nice quality and rugged devices. smitty
Also, to add onto what Jedd said, Jedd and I aren't making a dime off of the stone trainer, if anyone thinks we are getting paid. maidenfan
I'd definately use a solid roundstock loading pin for that vs. pipe, especially if you're going to start dropping the plates.
