EricMilfeld
To those who own one, how would you rate the quality? Also, relative to the Iron Mind grippers, how do the various HG ratings (200, 250,300, etc.) compare? Thanks.
matthcarl
I'm sure other will disagree, but I do not like them at all. The knurling (on mine) is terrible. I had a handle break on one the first day, and they feel awkward to close because the handles don't meet like a COC, they will be offset by a half inch or so. barbe705
Mine are okay. If I had to do it all over again I think I would have bought something else but... the spreads are over the place. The knurling is about the same as my COC. The spread seems to throw off the accuracy of the rating by a bit. my 150 is easier than my 100 because it's quite a bit narrower. But, they have held up fine and if you order the whole set at once you can get a pretty good deal. If you wanted some grippers to modify these might be a cheaper way to go about it. as far as comparing to COC. I have a250 HG and a 2.0 coc. that's as close as mine come. The 250 is easier than the 2, but not by a huge amount. I think the big difference is the spread on the COC. Brent Edited March 2, 2008 by barbe705 Quote Brent Barbe "The truth is often stupid." nockowt1
I think they are decent grippers to warm up with. They do vary alot though. My HG300 feels like a double stamped #3, but my HG350 is easier for some reason. Quote Real Name: Kevin McFadden
Paul Savage
personally i think they are the most value for money grippers out there, ive not had any problems with any of mine or any of the others ive tried - i would recommend getting a full set of heavy grips to any grip newbie, most people will never need anything more than that Quote Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/savagegainzcoaching/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRzim_aKbMtut2hMsRU3J3A Training log - http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?showtopic=36960&st=

Also, relative to the Iron Mind grippers, how do the various HG ratings (200, 250,300, etc.) compare? Thanks. Eric they are cheap (6 for 60bucks) which is a plus. Heres my breakdown of what set i own 100lbs-No way its over 75lbs. My wife can close this one and she can't close an IM "T" 150- Feels like a trainer, but the sweep is easier 200 feels like a "1" 250 feels like a "2" 300 is harder than my COC #3 (my #3 was purchase in 1999 and has had very little work over the years) 350 -I only do chest crush downs with this, but it is far easier than my COC #4 which i use for crush downs as well.... With the price, they are a fine addition to anyones gym- I think they would be real good to file down for over crushes, because you wont blink to tear them up. Quote MM4. COC. Alawadhi
Hello Eric My 100 feels easeir than a T 150 a bit more than a T 200 like a #1 250 like a 1.7 300 like 2.7/2.8 400 was like a 3 now is like a 2. 500 is a bit harder than a #4 but easier to chest crush because of no pain. EricMilfeld
A lot of responses! Thanks, guys! I'm just trying to figure out what else I want to get for prizes at the Show of Hands.
MalachiMcMullen
While I don't own any HG's I have tried several. They vary so much I personally don't think they are worth buying. I've closed 3 different HG350's and 1 HG300, all were around my 2.5, the 300 however was closer to a 2. I also tried Dave T's older 300 in a choker and was humbled. If your going to use them as prizes, not that I'm an expert but I'd say don't bother with anything below a 300. The majority of guys on here could take down most 250's and their lesser cousins with ease. Quote Zach Coulter Goals #1- The Planche
dthor
I haven't had any problems with any of my HG grippers. The newer ones sometimes vary a bit. The HG350 is usually a good gripper for the guys that can close the #3. HeavyGrips donated a bunch of grippers for our first few Contests in Michigan. Might be worth contacting them. vikingsrule92
Steve (knyaz) donated a BC 400 and 500 (very similar) for the AZ comp. Decent grippers but I'm not a fan of the huge handles, of course this isn't a problem with the regular ones. They season very quickly and they're not the highest quality grippers. If you're going for prizes I'd say don't bother but if you do make sure it's a 300 or bigger. If you're talking for yourself I'd say a 300 or 350 might be worth trying out for the cheap price they can be had for.
Bob Lipinski
Eric- As a prize the HG grippers aren't bad- Heck, beggars can't be choosers! I have given away tons. I have a good idea for something that would be maybe cheap and relatively easy for you- Make a bender's bag with calibrated steel in small increments, maybe one for better benders and one for beginning benders. You can get some sort of leather tool belt or something as a nice carrying case. Quote US Handstrength
RPGoodfellow
Eric- Here's my take: HG's are OK. They're not great, they're not terrible, there just OK. I have a 150, a 300N, and a 350. I filed the hell out of my 150 and I use it for warm-ups and explosive crushes. It's easier than a CoC #1. My 300N is on par with my CoC #2.5...but, it's so much easier to set because of the spread I'd rate it slightly easier. My 350 is burly...but, I have a freaky CoC #3, with a spread over 3", so I think it's slightly easier. The knurling is shit on my 150 and 300N, but it's nice on the 350. As a whole, the 150 and the 300N have gotten considerably easier to close with use. The 350 has retained it's toughness. You're a really strong dude...and if you're looking for grippers that you don't care about filing the hell out of, pick a few up. If you're looking to add to the collection and/or invest in some solid grippers, stay away from them. Quote Goody Cinderblock Hands I am an agent of Fate, Michael. An agent of Fate with a sick crush. Alawadhi
One thing I forgot to say is I like the HG grippers. If you are strong to rep a 200, then train your weaker fingers on it (pinky or ring). EricMilfeld
Thanks again for the help, guys! Bob, I've thought about doing something like that before, but then I remembered that there's usually a bunch of steel given away and traded at these contests anyways.
