urbandruid Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) It satisfies all my requirements for a loadable KB (thick handle, no rough edges like allthread around the grip, adjustable weight, rounded bell to rest on the forearm, etc.) and it will go up to 150 lbs when filled with lead (to melt lead into a solid mass, just stick it over a stove, or outdoor turkey frier burner). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v624/urb...id/100_2122.jpg It's a 7.25" length of 8.5" ID stainless pipe for the bell, 1" solid steel supports for a 2" ID schedule 40 stainless pip handle. Should be able to hold more weight than you'll ever need for KB work. The shape is such that it allows for snatches and cleans without necessitating only bottoms up work, the handle is extra thick for grip training, and the lead to load it is free from tire shops. you really don't even have to melt it. I just shoved tire weights whole into it until I got the appropriate weight. It isn't likely I'll have to melt anything until I get over 100lbs, and that's quite a ways off. to make it more adjustable, you COULD use lead buck, but I sacrificed adjustability for affordability in this case. doesn't matter, I don't intend to lighten the load. I figured there'd be some welders around that might appreciate this design, and with the cost of KB's today (especially after shipping) I figured a homemade bell that could grow with you might be appreciated. svr Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 That looks absolutely beautiful in functional kinda way. Quote svr (Sean) "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." — Theodore Roosevelt
apttdwler Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Coolest design I've seen.. Be careful if you melt lead. The fumes are nasty. Do it outdoors on a windy day, or have a fan handy.... Quote http://www.geocities.com/fightraining http://fightraining.blogspot.com/
