David Horne Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I may be putting together adjoining lists for the Reverse and DU lists on only batch tested steel bars. 1. I will purchase a length of 8mm steel and this will get cut up into lengths and marked. One 7" bar will be calibrated to 30 degrees like how Eric does. 2. One bar is sent to the athlete in a sealed envelope to open and bend on video like the MashMonster cert 3. Each new length of steel will again be tested. I've done this before and it's the best way. What do you think? David Quote

What do you think? David It's the most fair, but what about the list that already exists? Are you gonna start over again or leave the already bend stuff with an average for that kind of steel? Guess the biggest con would be that it's more expensive for people (I'm sure you're not going to ship the bars on your costs) and the variety of steel possible to bend will be less then it's now, so the steps to increase will be bigger. But yes, it's definitely an honest system IMO Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
David Horne Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 Mark, I'll leave the other lists there as people have worked hard for those bends. People should only go for the bars if they are ready to bend that kind of steel, and since there are only a small amount who have done a bastard Reverse style I don't think that the requests for the 8mm steel will be flooding in. It costs money for the Mash Monster gripper to get shipped around and yet people want to participate in this, and of course it is a very fair process. Also no one has to even have a go, this is just a feeler to see the response. David Quote
bencrush Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I think it's a great idea David! And it lets us directly compare ourselves with others, without the specter of "easy" versus "hard" batches of Reds and Bastards to dissect and pull apart. I'm glad you're keeping the current lists though. Quote
David Horne Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 Ben, It's no ones fault that steel varies, it's just the way it is. But since we know, why not then do something about it. David Quote
bencrush Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Right on David. I'm not mad about steel varying, just saying that's even more reason to buy your batch tested bars! Quote
David Horne Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 It sometimes is quite infuriating, as you are improving slowly, and then the next batch of steel is either very hard or easy. It's like suddely going from 200k on the deadlift to 250k. Not good for training purposes. Hopefully with the help from Eric, we will get a nice assortment of steel so that at least you really know the increments. And as I've said before it's no ones fault. A business like FBBC or IronMind want to sell lot's of bars and selling lots keeps the price down. We'll see what the response is first. David Quote
David_wigren Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I say it's a great idea! And as for the cost of shipping bars I'd say that it's a small price to pay for a accurate list Quote
Bob Lipinski Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 You know David, I think there might be a market for batch tested stuff of all types. Not huge, but maybe enough for you and Eric to make a little change. Eric's done enough free shit with his calibration, if he wanted to make a buck for it I sure as hell wouldn't knock him. Well, I'm more than happy to help David with this project, but I won't accept any money... but I will accept grippers... 3/8" grade 2 bolts... Blobs... beer... This actually is an idea I've toyed around with doing for several years, so it's nice to see that it might actually happen now. Here's a few names for the bending certs I've thought about offering: - Bending Beast - Metal Mangler - Steel Slayer Quote
David Horne Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Eric, Got your pm - interesting! I'll mull it over today. Cheers, David Quote
Tim71 Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 If Eric starts charging, I'll be broke! I really don't have an opinion David since I'm WAY below that level right now on Reverse and DU bending. Certainly would make it fair for the really elite bends. Tim Quote
