gerryg Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 What benefit do you get out of french press partials? Wouldn't you be better off cutting the weight and doing a full range of motion french press with good form? This is all new to me and I'm trying to soak up knowledge. Quote

French Press Partials Why did you drop a 120lb dumbbell from that height? Bend over and put it down. Although the description was accurate and I know you do some movements for arm wrestling I'm not sure why a 3-inch range of motion on this movement would help - explain. [???] Although the description was accurate and I know you do some movements for arm wrestling I'm not sure why a 3-inch range of motion on this movement would help - explain. I generally do not drop the dumbbells but when I do, I make sure the fall is parallel to the floor to minimize the chance of damage. Why drop? Well, there's a lot of burning after a set like that - quick relief, perhaps. Why the short ROM for that set? My elbow joints are chronically sore from the heavy curls and am looking to get a good burn in the muscle without overtaxing the joints. Quote

odin Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 (edited) I don't think you fellows are grasping the bigger picture. Maybe those lifts were done in honor of the one-month anniversary of the death of Sri Chinmoy (August 27, 1931 - October 11, 2007). When you're able to French Press 120 x 65 for full ROM, please feel free to post it. I don't see full ROM in yours. I think I could likely do the same percentage of my bodyweight for equivalent partials, but I wouldn't feel compelled to start a new thread and post the video on a grip strength training board, or post links to videos where my "batteries died". Lesson learned, no more clicks on links to "Inch Dumbbell Concentration Curls", etc. Good luck in your training, you are obviously much bigger and stronger than I'll ever be and I truly respect you for that. The pain in your elbows isn't just down to curls and you haven't claimed they help the arm wrestling - ergo a waste of time and still hurting you. I never claimed that number of reps was full ROM. I have not been on an arm wrestling table since September of 2006 and have no interest in being on one in the very near future. I do the curls as an end in themselves - that's the goal, to push the envelope farther than it's been done before. If it helps with arm wrestling (more than likely it will), then so be it - but that's not the main goal. Quote

That's the main thing I took from this whole topic. sri chinmoy passed away 0ct. 11 2007 i think he had sore elbows from doing partials as well. “The physical and the spiritual must go together,” taught Sri Chinmoy. “They cannot be separated.” In this light, Sri Chinmoy astounded sports heroes and luminaries through a weightlifting career which he began in 1985, at the age of 54. Weight being anything but insurmountable, Sri Chinmoy credited God’s Grace which gave him inner peace for the ability to lift thousands, sometimes even tens of thousands of pounds. From cars to elephants to planes, Sri Chinmoy lifted almost every object imaginable in various styles of strongman lifts. “I have learned from Sri Chinmoy that the size of the arm does not make the man; the size of the heart makes the man,” said five-time Mr. Universe and Best Built Man of the 20th Century, Bill Pearl. “Nobody on earth has done what Sri Chinmoy has done.” God’s Grace which gave him inner peace for the ability to lift thousands, sometimes even tens of thousands of pounds. lifesnotfair Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I think your curling is acceptable as a "partial curl", but this tricep extensions have very little ROM. I'm sure you've got strong triceps if you claim to have benched 225x154 and 315x65 if memory serves me correct... but I'm starting to think maybe those reps were maybe done with a very small ROM. You're still hella strong, but damn man.... Quote
