wscorpion Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 For the last few weeks I've been spending all my free time in building my new bathroom. This means I do not have any time left to get a decent workout, so all the time I do have left, I spend bending stuff since the UK Champions of Steel contest is only a few weeks away. One of the things I've bent today is a 5.5" x 5/16" Hex cut from a mixer used to mix glue and stuff. Here's the image: http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?automod...si&img=6216 The first one I tried was a 7" piece, this bar was so tough that it took me 3 attacks to get it kinked. Once I knew it was possible I've cut another piece to 6.5". This one also went down, but was extremely hard from kink to crushdown. Of course I had to try a 6" after that. Amazingly this one felt a little lighter then the 6.5", but I think that's because I'm focussing on short stuff the last weeks. Since I got that one as well, I had to give a 5.5" a try. I was quite happy with the bend, especially with the crushdown since it took me approx 20 seconds to get it past the sweep, and approx. 2 minutes to crush it under the 2" Since this stuff is so hard to kink compared to a red or bastard, I'm curious how it would compare to a hexabastard. I don't think this stuff will be easier then a hexabastard of the same length, but I will know for sure when my order from FBBC comes in Still I'm very happy with this bend and I can safely say it's the toughest piece of steel that I've finished under 2" double overhand style yet Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."

wscorpion Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 (edited) Thanks guys! Wow Mark those are some tough ones Great Job!!! Did you order any FBBC hex? Brendan Thanks, and of course I did (just haven't received my order yet ) I've ordered: - shiny bastards - hexabastards - normal bastards - edgins (5/16 G5 bolts) Hopefully I can bend everything evenrtually at approx. 6" length, I have a good feeling about it (except those edgins, I hate bending bolts) Of course those FBBC bars will be nice to be certified here on the board, finally have something other then veteran under my name Edited August 19, 2007 by White Scorpion Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
dimmers Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Nice work Mark!!! that must of been tough. I'm sure you'll do well when that fbbc order arrives, and you'll do lots of certs! (be warned though, that fbbc stock is tough stuff good luck mate, with the fbbc stuff and the UK bending comp! Quote

(be warned though, that fbbc stock is tough stuff good luck mate, with the fbbc stuff and the UK bending comp! Thanks mate! I know the FBBC stuff is tough, and that's the challenge of it And I also need it for progression, I've bent everything I could find here at 8mm (at reasonable length that is), also bent some 9mm bolts and some threaded 10mm, but I'm still not strong enough for kinking the 10mm HRS at 7" (psychological? who knows ). That's why I need that FBBC stuff, it should be somewhere between all 10mm stuff I find here and the other stuff I've bent already. bencrush Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Nice bending! Look forward to hear how it compares to the FBBC stock. It's no joke. The Shiny and Edgins make the easy Red Nails feel like taffy. Quote
Booyah!!! Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Congrats White Scorpion , Can't wait to see how it stacks up to the FBBC Stuff. Quote I Love Bending Steel http://www.youtube.com/user/booyahbender
crobb1320 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 great job man, those are awesome bends and i know what you mean about the house taking up all the extra time,i am in the same boat on that one. wscorpion Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 Thanks guys, I can't wait to try it either. I've only bent stainless threaded, and the 10mm stainless threaded (which has an effective size of approx. 8.5-9mm without the thread) is too much for now. I can only kink it to a few degrees so it's quite difficult to guess from the progression pages. Since I felt this stuff is so much harder then a red or a bastard, and assuming a bastard rates at 440-450 and the hexabastard at 485, then this should be comparable. But perhaps since the hexabastard has more of a name then this unnamed piece of steel, it will be more difficult the first time due to the psychological part From the same pages the shiny rates approx 60lbs higher then the hexabastard, then that would be the next logical step. After that the Edgin, but since it's a bolt, it might take a lot longer to take it down then the shiny and hexabastard. Unfortunately the only 8mm bolts I can find here which have the 8.8 stamp on it, are at a max length of 5.5". I did try that one of course, but I only managed to kink it to 5 degrees or so I'm glad I can finally make progression again in steel size, it's quite boring to constantly have to bend the same stock but just in shorter pieces since there is nothing else to find here anymore which would be a nice step up. The only other stuff is 10mm CRS or HRS, and those are just a little too much for now Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."

I did try that one of course, but I only managed to kink it to 5 degrees or so Mark, i'm impressed you've managed to kink one of these bolts, they are the equivalent of a 5/16" grade 5 i think, and you kinked one at 5.5" that's insane!!! I sent an 8mm class 8.8 bolt (6" length) to Liam here on the gripboard and he said it was very very difficult - he has already done fbbc bastards and shiny bastards i believe so he may be able to comment more on how they compare?? Looking forward to those fbbc cert vids, i'm sure there will be quite a few Quote

From that point on it's a whole different story.... Edited August 20, 2007 by White Scorpion Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
