Teemu I Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Well, I was in the grip competition organized by Finland's MR. Grip, Kimmo Kokko yesterday and what a great day it was. My main goals for the competion were: 1) To be the first Finn to close CoC #3.5 with a parallel set under competion circumstances 2) Pull a new offical Finnish Record on the Rolling Thunder I succeeded at both! RTcontest ended up in a tie between me and Jarmo Meriä (a great grip athlete and really nice guy, watch his videos on youtube), we set a new competiton record with 82,5 kilos. Result wasn't quite what I've expected, having pulled 90 kilos in training for quite a few times already, but National record is still a record and I'm happy about that. That 90 kilos will come in a matter of time. That #3.5 close..oh man I was nervous before the attempt! I really wanted to close that gripper and it didn't come easy..just watch ! I took a too deep set at first, was told to open it up, and then came the command to close. I bet I have never before managed to close a hard, near my max-gripper by an effort that took so long. But I did, I don't know how, maybe it was all the adrenaline, but I did! Also, what surprised me very much, was that I wasn't that far off from closing that #3.5 with my left hand, guys said that I missed it only by 3 millimeters or so. Has to be my best effort with the left hand, ever.It was a great day, had a chance to meet and talk to the majority of the top grip guys here in Finland. It was a pleasure to meet everyone in person, who were familiar from the Finnish Rautakoura Grip forums. I have to say thanks to Matti Heiskanen, kilkkinen on this board, really great guy and a strong pincher, for taking a video of my #3.5 close. Good luck to you and Teemu Pohjola for your MMG1 attempts, not that you guys need any! Thanks to Kimmo Kokko for organizing the event, it was great. Quote Teemu Ilvesniemi, Finland My Blog
climber511 Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Congratulations - excellent job!! How about a report on the whole event? Must have been some great lifting there. Teemu I Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 Thanks guys! Martin: the format of contests organized here is a bit different than most of the grip comps, it is not the most common of 5 events, there are plenty of separate events where to chooce from. I'll make a list of them at some point, it is quite long. I don't know excactly when's the next contest..Finnish Rautakoura main site is down for a while now, the schedule was there.
