climber511 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Do all York bars have numbers on them - I can't find any numbers at all on mine - bought it 2001 I think. Where are the numbers located on the bar? Quote When people used to ask him how it was he became so incredibly strong, it was always the same, "strengthen your mind, the rest will follow". Thats the trouble with alot of stuff now, not just weightlifting stuff either.Companies are using Steel from China because its cheap but the steel itself is very poor quality, it seem stupid for a company to risk its good name just to save some money surely this will be worse in the long run for them. If you want some of the best steel, get an Ivanko competition bar. They are all over 200,000 PSI tensile strength, made in the USA and X-ray tested for safety. As for their imported bars, who knows? You get what you pay for with Ivanko. Edited August 18, 2007 by RiotGrip Quote Grip like you mean it!

I have not stopped thinking about this since Dan first started this thread. What about steel used in buildings and bridges? Where are we headed with this? Is a moderate earthquake out here a few years down the line with buildings made of imported steel going to bring things crashing to the ground? Barbells bars breaking when they are not loaded to capacity is as bad an indicator as any I have ever heard of. Practically every day, we hear a new horror story. This is almost surreal. Quote

Great post Hubgeezer I never even considered that. With the steel coming from abroad more and more foundarys are closing in the UK and im sure in the U.S the only steel available may end up being the cheap stuff, which is a shame Quote
